If you want soft structured carriers go with Beco, Boba, or Catbird carriers. I like the pocket on the ergo myself. But those are other options that are similar to ergo.

Baby Hawk just came out w/ a new carrier called Oh Snap. looks like you get the ease of the buckles (like an ergo),
comfort of a soft structured carrier (padded waist & shoulders),
the great support of a higher back (like the BH meitai or Beco),
ease of nursing b/c there is nothing btwn you & the babe (beco has an interior harness thing that makes nursing tricky), &
you get the great look & ability to customize (like the BH mei tai).

but it is pricy $140 but it is made in the USA (beco is now made in china ).

can you tell I really want one

I've been wanting to try an Oh Snap! as well. They look great and I love that you can design your own just like the regular babyhawk.

If you're looking something that has a similar shape/features as the ergo you could look into an Olives and Applesauce carrier. They have some nice fabrics and are a bit bigger (as in the body of the carrier is a little taller/wider) than the ergo.

thank you for the links- i think im sold..... but does anyone know if the babyhawk has more head support for a sleeping baby on your back ....my ergo doesnt except for the hood but my kids woke up everytime I put the hood up

The Oh Snap doesn't have a sleeping hood, just the headrest. I think the key is getting a sleepy baby/child to tuck his/her arms inside the carrier -- this is something you can practice when they're awake -- and also making sure they're really well bounced down into the carrier and seat darts.

It's really going to depend on how tall your child is.
