even more unimpressed with Target

I just got a little Target ad in the mail. It's basically 3 sheets folded in half and stapled in the middle.

Cover: "affordable baby essentials, over $33 in coupons"

Second spread (out of 5)
"big-time nutrition at pint-size prices...Keep Baby healthy and your wallet happy with mealtime must-haves at affordable prices" showing stacks of a variety of Similac containers (you know, the ones designed by the carpenter )

Facing page shows happy babies lying on floor, both with bottles.

No nursing products in the whole flyer, but more formula and bottle coupons.

Anyone else bothered by the wording? Is this a good opportunity for some letter-writing?

Makes me glad breastfeeding is free, no coupons required!

I would write a letter- it's too bad they couldn't make the coupons for formula -OR- such and such dollar amount off a breast pump or milk storage baggies/containers.

ETA: I'm sure nursing is not the money maker that formula is... Target/Walmart/ insert-big-box-store-name-here/ and the formula companies are probably in each others pockets anyways...

Um, yuck!

But what does "designed by the carpenter" mean? I can't figure it out!

Bolding mine. It is free unless you have to pump for whatever reason. Then you have the expense of bottles, milk storage bags, and the pump and the bag used to schlep everything around. (Still, though, is cheaper than formula...)

I think she means Ty Pennington that guy from the home makeover show on ABC. He endorses and is the sponser person for all the formula commercials for one of the brands..similac maybe? blech.

it is irritating but with breastfeeding rates so low in USA and with big corporations only thinking about money and not the health of infants it's easy to endorse formula. I personally feel bad for woman that choose to use formula [excluding those who medically cannot breastfeed] While they get up at night making a bottle. I just whip my breast out and put it in my babies mouth. It's great :]

Yep, I meant Ty Pennington. He 'designed' that more-convenient formula container.

I think what irritates me most about the ad is that formula is touted as 'essential' and 'must-have'. Yuck. Not for most babies.

"Essential" is a Target marketing word. It's used to advertise all sorts of non-essential items.

I am equally miffed at Babies R Us as they sent me an email advertising a free $10 gift card with Emfamil purchase. I can't imagine the pocketbook strain if you bought all your formula from overpriced BRU. Oh, and were does Ty Pennington get off endorsing formula?
