Breastflow bottles

Hello!

Not sure this goes here, but I'm really hoping someone here can give me some info...

I am trying to teach my baby to accept a bottle because I'm going to need to return to work and he will be without me for 8-9 hours per day when that happens. I have been trying to give him a bottle once per day to get him used to a bottle. Usually, DH has been trying to feed him the bottle because we have heard that sometimes babies won't take a bottle from Mom when they can smell the breast right there.

Anyway, I bought a Breastflow bottle today, and the baby took the bottle from me immediately, NO PROBLEM, no fussing; it was awesome!

The thing that was NOT awesome about the bottle was the breastmilk that was spilling all over my lap, the baby, the floor and the couch while I was feeding the bottle. Every time I got the bottle slightly horizontal, milk would come pouring out the bottom of the ring that attaches the nipple to the bottle.

I have read around and it looks like this is a common problem with these bottles. Does anyone else have these problems? Have you found a solution to the problem without using a different bottle? I REALLY like the nipple on this one and the fact that my baby took it without complaint, so I want to use these, but I cannot drench myself (or expect someone else to) with sticky breastmilk at every bottle feeding!

Help! Should I just buy a second one? I will also call the customer service for the bottle tomorrow and see what they say, but would like to know your experience, too.

Thanks!

Are you checking to make sure the two nipples are fit together correctly?

One has "tabs" and the other has "notches", so to speak. The outer one is so soft that you can accidentally fit them together without making sure they are actually fitted like they should be.

Other than that, the only leakage I had when I tried it was because DH screwed the top on way too tight. I had to reassemble it and then only screw until I felt resistance. Barely tight at all.

HTH!

We use these too when i am at school or work and do try checking that the two part nipple is tightly together. This make sense, i haven't had probs but my husband has.. he says that the treading can be tricky- that its almost like with one of hte set, it can only go one specific bottle with one ring. He actually makes me transfer stored milk out of it, b/c he says the storage lids don't fit it. Still, our little one drinks from it, and he is not a bottle fan, so my husband puts up with it.

Just make sure to monitor your baby using it, because mine figured out he could just chomp down on the nipple and the milk would drain into his mouth without any effort on his part.

We love these bottles it has worked great for us. Make sure everything is threaded properly with the inner and outer nipple.

If you continue to have problems with that bottle I would take it back it could just be that one.

DOH! DH bought a second one and the first one was actually damaged. I tried out the second one and it works perfectly. Thank you so much for your replies!
