you don't need much

I'm a former professional math and science tutor. Don't let all these supplies substitute for real learning. Real learning requires very little in the area of traditional school supplies, in fact I believe the less, the better. Books and worksheets can be a crutch. The more they can learn directly from you instead of the printed word, the better. At Waldorf schools, children are not given textbooks. They learn from the teacher and make their own text "notebooks" to reflect what they've learned over a year.
I haven't homeschooled yet, but plan to. I have a neighbor who does, and has done it on a shoestring. Her girls are so far away and beyond the norm for their ages (8 and 10). It's very possible.
