Need Help With Weird Diaper Rash

My 6 1/2 month old baby boy gets these random diaper rashes. I've never seen anything like it before on any other baby but him. The diaper rashes are not on his but cheeks, but instead from his penis on up towards his tummy. He suddenly turns fire red, it stays for few days, peels, and then he's fine until our next round of this. It goes away without any diaper cream although I do try to put breast milk on it. He's only on breast milk right now and we do have food sensitives we are dealing with.

Any ideas?

My younger son gets this exact same rash!! I have NO idea what it is, it comes and goes really randomly. The one thing I find that helps is if I put his diaper on loser, but then I have to make sure we have a really good cover on because poop leaks happen more...

I have a feeling this might be yeast - check w/ your ped and get a script for nystatin cream or I haved used miconazole (monistat) cream w/ success on my daughter. The bright redness, not being on the butt cheeks, and the peeling are all signs of a yeast rash (this is what I read when I was researching it and has been true w/ dd's).

Treating the underlying cause .. well we're still working on that. There are more than a couple ways to go. Good luck w/ it.

I didn't even think that it could be yeast... I have an appointment for the baby on the 18th so I will definitely ask then!

Yeast. Ask the ped but a few days of Lotrimin AF cream and all better!

My baby's doc said it's the diapers today, so I'm stripping them.

When dd had yeast, the doc said not to worry about the diapers and just treat the rash. That we did, and it never recurred, without doing anything to the dipes. Yeast lives all over our bodies so you can't banish it. If you want to try, you're going to have to treat them pretty rough - bleach, mainly.

We got a lot of rashes from food allergies with ds1. And he has a lot. So if you have trouble clearing it up with the other solutions, don't rule out the food sensitivies.

We had a very stubborn yeast here. Making a point to soak the dipes in vinegar, then wash them on hot did the trick. Just treating the rash wasn't enough. It would get better, then I think it would get reintroduced.
