what wool to get?

I've made two bloomer-style diaper covers for my littlest dd, and now I'm itchin' to make more. But COST is the primary obstacle - and the second obstacle is that I don't know anything about wool!

The blue bloomers are 100purewool.com - 1ply
The pink bloomers are their 3ply - I think I was happier with the 3ply, but both are very soft.

Peace Fleece looks interesting. How would it compare in softness?

I really can't take my kids to the yarn store without them making me crazy, so I need advice!

peace fleece is NOT soft. My kids tolerate it- and it really can't be beat in terms of durability. It gets a beautiful mohair fuzz that while attractive- itches like the devil.

How about cascade 220? it pills slightly but is about the same cost as full price pf. Have you ordered from knitpicks? they have a bare merino or a bare wool that are so much fun to koolaid dye. Or you could always just do thier regular dyed wool too.

Or my lys is this one http://stores.ebay.com/Ewe-Phoria-Ya...&submit=Search

She can do any of her colorways or a custom colorway in any yarn- I have knit up a bunch of her handpainted regular merino and it is so beautiful and soft and fun to knit with!

THANK you for the feedback on peace fleece. I have sensitivities to wool already, but the 100purewool didn't bother my hands at all!

Ewe Phoria looks lovely, but that's way out of my price range. way. way. out.

I've only ever bought wool at the local yarn store and internet order of 100purewool. I am so happy with the 100purewool, love the feel and the colors, but I'm not as enthusiastic about how the colorways knit up a little crazier than I'd like. I'm looking for something a little more subtle. And the yarn store is too pricey for a repeat shopping trip.

And, no - buying something with the intention of koolaid dying it sounds lovely - but the yarn would just SIT untouched, with my current lifestyle.

thanks!

I find KnitPicks Wool of the Andes to be very soft, though I've never felt anything from 100purewool.

Maybe someone else has compared the two? I love working with this yarn

Virtually no wool will be as soft at 100purewool. Seriously. It's merino and very soft merino, at that. Do you know of any coops for it? I typically pay about $7 per skein shipped through a coop. I love pf, but it is way scratchier. I think Wool of the Andes from Knit Picks is a good option. It's not as soft as purewool, but it's nice, economical, and comes in great colors. Knit Picks has great customer service, too. Check yarn.com. You may be able to find a nice merino for not too much. They have great sales.

yes, I actually do know of a co-op for 100purewool, but that is likely not going to be here for 5-6 weeks ... I think I'm going to have to find SOMETHING to tide me over! I'll look at Wool of the Andes.

Peace Fleece softens up over time. And the price is great if you get in on a co-op or do a wholesale order.

I find Wool of the Andes to be less durable. I have a hat I made, and it's already shows wear. I like the yarn overall though.
