Pre-soak rice?

Does anyone pre-soak rice? I use a rice cooker, and sometimes the rice is a little crunchy. Should I be pre-soaking it? (Usually jasmine rice)

I use a rice cooker and usually fill it over what I should for the amount of cups. For example if I put in 3 cups, I fill to 3.5. I also add olive oil. Maybe try that?

I don't use a rice cooker but when my rice comes out a bit hard I know it just needed more water.
I just started soaking my rice but I don't think it makes a huge difference in cook time (I use brown rice).

My rice cooker has a short soak time built into the regular cook cycle. Sometimes I put the rice and liquid in in the morning and set it to cook later in the day. But even when I use the quick cook cycle (skips the soak) I've never had a problem with crunchy rice. What kind of rice cooker are you using? Fuzzy logic or on/off?

I use a rice cooker, and I don't have a problem with crunchy rice but I don't often make jasmine rice. What rice to water ratio are you using?

Usually you use a little less water with jasmine rice because it steams rather than boils during cooking. I found this "Cooking jasmine rice in a rice cooker can be tricky. Try reducing the amount of water called for in the rice cooker's directions - even to a 1:1 ratio if necessary."

It seems like less water would make it more crunchier, but it might be worth a small test run to see what happens to get the ratio right.

But this might be the most helpful link--

It offers some suggestions on how to prepare jasmine rice in a rice cooker.
