How do you prevent these painful white blisters?

I just got a new one during the night, but have been getting them 1x/wk to 1x/2 weeks for the past months. They seem to be related to plugged ducts-got a couple of those during the night too- but dont always come together. Sometimes it looks like a tiny white blister, others a section of nipple looks white or light in color. It really hurts to nurse that area but it seems that nursing is also the best cure-it seems to break the blister or skin section so things flow again-gross, I know. Nursing books dont really talk about this. I've read lecithin supplements can help with ducts, can they help with this too? Thanks for help with this painful & yucky situation!

Lcitin should help with milk blisters/blebs as well as plugged ducts. They're awfully painful for something so small, aren't they?

Kellymom has some great info : http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/nipplebleb.html

Hope they clear up soon!

I noticed I got them when holding DS in certain positions when he was younger. For us the football hold on the left side always created one. Now he can nurse in almost any position and we have no issues. Hope they get better soon!

I still get this all the time and my kid is 5 months old. I have found that using Motherlove nipple cream really helps.

Just read the info and am ready to get to work on this since the last one lasted over a week. Kellymom is great!
Chamomile girl-where do you get that cream?
Anyone know the lecithin dose to prevent these?

I've been taking lecithin for about a month and a half now to deal with this problem, and I haven't had a single blister or blocked duct during that time. I think I take 1200mg three times a day.
