We go out for breakfast on Christmas Eve morning, and then we go to a UU church service later on Christmas Eve.

Christmas cookie baking. The Sunday closest to my brother's birthday (Dec. 11th), we would have the Christmas cookie baking. We all would roll and cut out sugar cookies, bake them, and then frost and decorate them. After dinner, we'd celebrate my brother's birthday. Of course, my mom would be baking the entire 4 weeks from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve but that one Sunday was for us kids. I continued the tradition with my kids. Now, I do the baking with my daughter and her children.

We sit in a circle Christmas morning and open presents one at a time. We go around and around the circle until all the presents are open. The younger ones have the jobs of finding and passing out presents to each person at the start of each round. I love this because it helps put more of the focus on giving and appreciation. Each thing is seen and appreciated and the recipient thanks and hugs giver (if they are there) before we move on. It also lengthens the celebration... We've had a present session the day after Christmas before when we had a large group in town!

Another one: several years ago when everyone was getting stuffed with all the rich food of the season we decided to roll sushi together for Christmas eve dinner. It was such a hit we've been doing it since. Kids can even leave some (veggie... We don't want to give Santa food poisoning!) sushi out for Santa so he has something healthy to keep him going!

This year we're starting the tradition of not going anywhere! I want to stay home and be with my family...not driving for hours to see other family members. If they want to visit us, they can...but we're not moving!

Also looking forward to a big Christmas meal...as a picnic in the living room. We're just now starting our own traditions since we just finally stood up to the in-laws and put our feet down about visiting Christmas Day. I'm soooo excited.

We *always* have done cinnamon rolls in the morning, one present opened Christmas Eve, opening Christmas gifts in morning as soon as cinnamon rolls are ready, and at least one family board game to play Christmas Day.

putting up the tree right around Thanksgiving every year.

going to the mall on black Friday. A tradition I started a couple of years ago. the kids love getting up and going at 6am.

spending time with family on Cmas eve and Cmas day. I love the socialness (is that a word?) of that time of the year.

DD was born on the 18th of last December. Since I was still tired and could not make the normal Christmas dinner, we ordered out. We plan on keep this tradition this year as well.

This year we are started a bunch of traditions because ds is old enough to remember and be apart of them. We are going make a gingerbread house on Christmas eve, open one present (pjs), and watch charlie brown christmas. I want to put the kids in their pjs one night and then pile in the car to look at lights.

I want this year to be less stressful. We are not traveling and dont have to worry about seeing everyone in one. Just our little family.
