Anybody know anything about jogging with a dog?

I have a pit mix who's about 14 months old. He's a pretty big fella, about 65 lbs and lanky/tall. I want to take up jogging to get myself into better shape and bring my dog along to help him run off some of his adolescent dog energy. Is he done growing? Should I be worried about stress on his joints? Should I wait and include him when he's a bit older? I'm no speed demon, by any standard, and he's a healthy, sturdy dog, but I don't want to hurt him!

Normally you don't want to do anything strenuous like jogging or agility training till they're 2 years old, because that's when their growth plates close (and of course get him started slowly, like you would for yourself). I think you may be able to x-ray to check that, but I'm not sure if you'd want to go to those lengths.

This completely. The growth plates can close around 18-24 months, but can be sooner or later, just depends on the particular pet. I know for screening of hips they will do preliminaries younger than 2, but won't certify until the pet is 2 years of age.
You will be able to get an x-ray to make sure the growth plates are closed.
Then work your way up to long distances if the growth plates are closed.
