DPT forced on us

Our 2 year old son was bit by a dog a few days ago. The dog was more or less playing and it was just a superficial scratch that bled for a few minutes.

My spouse reported it to a pediatrician.
Then (against my advice) scheduled a vaccination appointment for DPT (diphtheria. pertussis, tetanus)

He has not had any vax shots at all.

I had reservations about DPT and wanted to get just the tetanus shot instead of all 3. I canceled the appointment. The pediatrician called me an hour later and got mad and told me she is reporting me to the
Child Protective Services for this, even though she hasn't seen the child.

Now I am really upset about all this as I don't know what to expect, can the CPS really show up and investigate? There is nothing to investigate. And how they aggressively push the vaccines like a car dealer that tries to sell you a car, seems just like business.

Where can I find a homeopathic pediatrician in Montgomery county, Maryland?

I don't have any specific info or advice, but holy moly, that sounds like crap if I've ever heard it. I don't think a vaccination for tetanus would do any good if the children already had tetanus and I've never heard of a child getting tetanus from a dog bite...rabies, perhaps. LOL! Tetanus requires horse poop, right? Someone else will be along soon to help you more, I'm sure...

Some doctors are such... UAVs...

Well the dog has shots so rabbies is definitely out of the picture. It doesn't have any rabbies symptoms either.

Tetanus vax might be good for preventive issues, maybe not so much for this case (already 3 days ago).

1. It is claimed that tetanus *can* occur from an animal bite...but...I think it is really far fetched personally. Even if it were a real threat, the tetanus shot would do nothing for you now. The immuglobin would be your option if you were truly concerned.
2. Yes, many mama's on MDC have had dr.s call CPS after refusing vax. It's a possibility that they will investigate, but I wouldn't be concerned. You have nothing to hide. You've done nothing illegal. Don't let them bully you into getting this scary vaccine. DTaP freaks me out the most.
3. Find a new pedi. This one is not good. Scheduling a date to come in and get the shot after a "threatening" dog bite? That just shows how little this doc knows about tetanus and the vax. If your a bad mom for not getting the vax, isn't he/she a bad dr for not making the threat of tetanus (not really a threat btw) top priority?
4. I don't want to give marriage advice because every relationship works with its own dynamic. However, my dh would not get away with overstepping my (our) choices and making such a huge decision based on uninformed fear. I would take it very seriously if dh made a decision like that with no regard to me or the time I've put into the subject.
Good Luck!!!!! Keep us posted!

What does a DPT shot have to do with getting bitten by a dog? Let the Dr call the CPS there is nothing they can do. If they show up at your door without a warrent they cant come in. Was the dr concerned that the dog was still around the child?

I'd find a new ped 1st.

If your child is vaccine free, and they felt Tetanus was an issue, they would be giving Tig, not a vaccine. A vaccine will do nothing against tetanus from this current injury (it takes too long to produce antibodies).

What is Tig?

Thanks for feedback. The dog is not around the child, it was an out of town visit over the weekend. There is really no issue at all. My spouse is freaking out and acting irrationally and to make things worse, she is a vet and should know better.

I may want to consider a single Tetanus vax that's good and without side effects but I've heard bad things about this DTP that they want to administer without thought like to cattle. It's like a fast food drive-through operation.

TIG stands for tetanus immune globulin. This is an "anti toxin" shot given AFTER a wound if tetanus is a real threat. It is given to people who haven't had or are not "up to date" on their DTaP. Giving a DTaP after the fact is useless.

There is a tetanus Toxiod vaccine but it is not as you say you are looking for
"good and without side effects". All vaccines have side effects and carry risks.
The TT vaccine is a blood product as well

Just to reiterate this. And if they push it I'd ask them to show you documentation that the DTP shot is effective against preventing tetanus AFTER the fact and ask why they're not offering the TIG if they're so worried.

Hi! I live in Maryland, too. You have a lot of practicioners of natural medicine in your area. Go to MOMs (My Organic Market), Whole Foods, or a similar store and pick up a copy of Pathways, it is a free oversized magazine that is a great resource for natural health in the DC area. There is a directory of medical professionals of all types and lots of ads in each issue.

Thank you....
I read Pathways, didn't find any pedi stuff there.

It won't be a pediatric dr. It'll be a naturapath specializing in women and children or something of that sort. Once you start with a naturapath, it's really hard to go back to a dr. I've tried twice for money's sake and just couldn't part with the naturapathic model of healthcare.
