How much weight did your LOs gain from 6 mo through 1 yr.

Hi,

What was your experience with your LO's weight gain on a weekly/monthly basis from the age 6 mo through 1 year - Please?

My DD is 6 mo and 1 week and last week she gained only 2 ounces. (Edit:Before)Last week was 3 ounces. Is this normal?

At 6mo, my DD weighed about 18lbs, and at a year, about 20. Now at 18months, she weighs 25lbs, so she gained more from 12-18months than from 6-12months. She was 80th percentile for weight at 6 months, then only 25th percentile at 15 months, and now back up to 70th percentile at 18months. She's healthy, eats well, and is developing normally.

Honestly, I wouldn't get hung up on weekly gain for a 6month old. I'm sure there were weeks that my DD lost weight in there - and she didn't crawl until 10 months. A slow down in gain at that age is totally normal.

DS is only 8.5 months, but his weight gain slowed dramatically between 4 and 5 months. He's only gained a pound since August. He was 23lb then and he's 24lb now. Until August, he was gaining about 12oz per week.
He's normal and healthy and progressing well, he's just growing up rather than out.

DS was 15 lbs at 2 months, then at 6m was 17 lbs. He is 7.5 months now and I haven't weighed him since that last 17 lbs weight, he feels heavier though! My girls only gained about 2 lbs from 6m-1y. Weight gain especially slows down when they get mobile but even more, DS is certainly not mobile yet. Weight loss may even offer with active babies.

I do not weigh weekly. DD2 was weighed monthly at least until 7 months or so but she had issues gaining weight due to her condition at the time. We were also in the pedi office frequently trying to wean her off O2 so getting weights was easy. With DD1 and now with DS, they get weighed every so many months. They are growing, having enough wet dipes, I don't see the reason to weigh frequently.

Ds' weight gain has slowed down to about 1lb a month from 6 months until now, it was roughly 3lbs a month before that.

DS was ~17 lb at 6 months, 21.5 lb at 12 months.
DD was ~14 lb at 6 months, 16.5 lb at 12 months.

So yes, they slow down a lot after the first 6 months! Both weighed about 6.5 lb at birth.

I don't remember how much my youngest weighed at 6 months, but he was 14 lbs at 14 weeks, and around 18 at 12 months. So he gained 4 lbs in 8 and a half months.

DS1 was around 21 lbs at 6 months, and was 27 lbs at 12 months.

DD was arsound 20 lbs at 6 months, and 23 lbs at 12 months.

All of them were normal, although there was some concern about my youngest's growth. He still smaller than average (just outgrew 2T, and he turned 4 3 months ago), but normal.

Well, my littlest is not yet a year old, so...

However, I clearly remember the stats on my oldest because they alarmed our pediatrician at the time. Here's how little he gained:

birth= 9 lbs 01 oz
4 months old= 17 lbs 10 oz
1 year old= 21 lbs ??oz

Big newborn, very big infant, and skinny toddler. At 9 years old now, I think he *may* finally have hit 60 pounds! Big babies will not necessarily be big people, and if they aren't going to be, then they have to slow down considerably at some point, right?

And as a funny side note, my littlest peanut was just 6 pounds, born at term, and only 17 pounds on her first birthday. She is now a very healthy 70th %ile weight!! So who knows?

How old is your littlest peanut now? :-)

My DD was born a preemie at a tad over 5 lbs (5 weeks early). Now at 6 mo she just reached 15 lbs (2 oz under actually).

I am kind of wondering how much more she can gain until 1 year. She wasn't even on the chart in the Ped's office (non-adjusted) until 3 mo. Now she is 10-25% (non-adjusted). So that makes me happy but somehow I am obssessed with her weight (first time mom , worries a lot) and am waiting for her to be in the 50%. I will feel so happy when she isn't this li'l peanut anymore but an "average" toddler (50% is average and good enough for me. 70% is a pipe dream at best currently)

Edit: Being born a preemie wasn't the big concern. But after she was born she was a sleepy suckler and I supplemented with 50-70% formula the first 2 mo of her life (on Doc's orders). After which I weaned her off formula and there-in began my arduous trek to have her completely EBF (which she is now). It has been a very slow, painful, watchful climb and to take my mind off the constant worrying I finally invested in a weighing scale. This way I feel like atleast something is in my hands and control. Rather than going to the Ped's office and finding out after 3-4 weeks that she didn't really gain much even though she looked fairly chubby enough.

Dd gained 5lbs in between 6 months and 9 months, and then stalled there (at 25lbs) until age 2. She grew really tall in that time frame.

Ds was 16lbs at 6 months and 18lbs at 1 year. At 2 years, he was 22lbs. Now at 2 years 9 months, he's up to 28lbs, but I'm not sure exactly where that went or how it happened

ETA: How big were you or your husband as infants? Dh and I were very skinny infants and children, so when our son was a very skinny baby, no one worried. Genetics are genetics. Ds wasn't on the weight chart until recently and it's been no big deal. Our doc is a family doc and has known me since I was 10 and he started taking care of dh when he was 20 and 6'2" and maybe 150lbs, so he knows the genetics we've got going on.
