Will this soup be OK?

On Tuesday morning I went to the grocery store and bought a long list of groceries. I wanted to spend the day cooking post-baby meals. One of the things I bought was a cut of beef for crockpot vegetable soup. I came home and spent the day prepping and freezing all the food. Did not have time to put the soup in the crockpot, so I cut up the meat, mixed it with the seasonings and veggies, bagged it, and put it in the fridge.

I meant to put the soup in the crockpot yesterday morning (Wednesday) but I totally forgot. So this morning I put the meat & veggies in the pot along with the required water and such and turned it on.

I have no idea what the use by date was on the meat because the package is long gone. It was too hard to judge the quality of the meat because it has been marinating in seasonings and sliced onions since Tuesday. I tried rinsing a piece and looking at it but it is brown from the seasonings. Cut in half the inside is red. Some of the ground meat that I purchased on the same day is still raw in my fridge with a use by date of today--it looks fine and I am planning on portioning it into burgers and freezing this afternoon.

WWYD? Does the soup sound like it will be fine to you? I am deathly afraid of the stomach flu/food poisoning and I am pregnant too so I am probably a little more paranoid than most.

TIA!!!

So you bought the meat Tuesday, and it's been in the fridge for 2 days?

It's fine I think a week in the fridge is the rule of thumb.

I would say its fine. Just make sure its cooked thoroughly.

Normally I would say use the sniff test. But if you marinated it, then thats probley not going to work.

Okay, I have to really disagree with a week in the fridge on raw meat. NO WAY!

I think two days in the fridge is just fine. I'd definitely cook it and eat it.

Definitely cooking it to death...planning on 8 hours in the crockpot today. I tried sniffing and sniffing and feeling but yeah, it just smells like onion!!

Is it terrible that I might feed it to my family and wait to see if they are ok before eating it myself? Logically I feel it should be ok. Bought around 10 AM on Tuesday, in the crockpot at 8 AM on Thursday... but my irrational fear of puking has me worried about things like how slow I am this pregnancy. The time it took me to grocery shop, get home, unload the car, pull out the meat, get it prepped, get it into the fridge. Was it too long?? Did an extra day in the fridge put it over the edge?? Ugh, I wish I had remembered to cook it yesterday.

Well, how did it turn out?

If I were in that situation I wouldn't worry about it at all (I'm pregnant too), *especially* since it will be simmering for so long.

I would never even think twice about meat that's been in the fridge for 2 days. I do my shopping once a week, and whatever I buy then has to last all week. That includes the meat.

I think this is the first "would you eat it thread" that I have thought was completely fine

Well, I fed it to dh and the kids, and froze the rest. I had cereal and a couple clementines.

In my defense though I am about to begin my 35th week with a 2 for 2 history of starting labor in my 37th week. So me and food aren't really getting along right now anyway. From a digestive standpoint, a bowl of beef chunks for dinner sounded like a bowl of rocks!

They aren't barfing yet so maybe you all, and dh, and my mom were right.

In the food safe course I took the rule was three days for raw meat, in the fridge.
