I used to play ice hockey. That's not so much of a pastime that one can do with a newborn in a wrap... or in the same building, ideally.

IH, how did New Year in the cabin go?

thanks for asking

It went really well actually. DS is super happy in the cold, he sleeps really well (so much so that when we are home we sleep with the windows open in the dead of winter) so we didn't have any problems getting to the cabin .

We invited our very close married 'couple' friends to join us so having them here with us, making it not just 'us and the FIL' made it really enjoyable..

I also didn't realize how much cabin fever I was getting by being at home since the birth, I didn't realize how hesitant I was when we are home to go out at all/much. I kept having all these 'what ifs' (e.g.he cries, he needs a new diaper, he is upset in public etc)' which kept me inside and at home all the time . .

I think having to get in the car and drive an hour, go out to eat 'in public' on the way here, change a diaper somewhere other then our bathroom, get in a gondola, go up a mountain, and break our routine was really really good for me because I realized life can sort of go on a bit more normal then it has been.

Yea, newborns are really portable. Take advantage of that while you can. It gets a lot harder when they become mobile and want to get into everything to go out. That's one of the reasons why the newborn stage is my favorite.

my kids have all been like this, too! They love the fresh air. So whenever they are fussy, inconsolable, I bundle them up and take them out for a bit. I swear they sleep better in the fresh air.

I open the windows to get the fresh air in, as well. My parents thought I was crazy, but babies hate stuffy air.
