Does this sound like an ear infection?

I think my son might have an ear infection, but I am not sure...I'm reluctant to take him to the doctor because she's so far away, so I'd like to hear if anyone has any ideas about what this might be before I take the dreaded bus ride!

My son has been a little fussier than usual, but we think he's teething, so that's to be expected. But at night time, when I try and lie him on his right side to nurse, he's always turning his head towards the bed and pulling away. After a couple of minutes of nursing he usually calms down and stops, but it sure is an uncomfortable few minutes before then! He also wakes up more in the night if he sleeps with his head on that side.

I know it's not much, but does it seem like an ear infection to any of you? Or could it just be discomfort from the teething?

Does not sound at all like an ear infection.
Ear infections that need treatment usually involve high fevers and a child who is persistently in pain (& generally unwell).

The jaw nerve affected by teething runs all the way back to the ear, that alone could explain the ear sensitivity that you observe.

What a relief! Thank you!
