Its a sweet chemically smell almost like licorice or a little like something that would get sprayed in a car for cleaning. Smells a little familiar

anyway it makes me sick. I havent been able to use the heater. Im freezing using only a space heater and i have to have windows opened or cracked becauase the smell sort of sticks and lingers for hours and hours.

This weekend we will try leaving the house for the day and letting the heater run with windows opened to see if it offgasses and stops smelling..

ANyone know what chemical this is? have experience with it?

Um, did you call the people who installed it? I had new ones installed last year and my mom just had a new one installed. Neither one of us had any weird smells.

Could it be some kind of finish on the new furnace that needs to "burn off"?

I think your idea of letting it off-gas over the weekend with the windows open would help tremendously.

Call the installer, though, if the smell is still there!

I live in FL and we turn the heat on

A few days a year. Sometimes it smells faintly of something burning and DH said it's the dust burning off it from lack of use. Maybe yours has lubricants that need to dissipate? Have you called the installer?

It's probably just some oil or lubricant. It's not going to get any better unless you get the furnace hot and let it burn off.
