Anyone else homeschooling a gifted/Aspergers kid?

I need to commiserate!

DH and I are about 90% sure we will be pulling our 7yo gifted/Aspergers DD out of 2nd grade and homeschooling her this next semester. She needs more challenge and more specific interest learning than the school can provide. We also feel she needs more small group socialization, rather than a large classroom of 20+ kids.

Anyone in the same boat? Can we start a thread? Knock, knock! Where are you?

My son doesn't have Asperger's, but he has ADHD and SPD and is gifted. We started home schooling this fall. So we are not in the same boat, but are definitely in the same pond. School was tough for him because of his challenges and too easy in other areas. He has blossomed with home schooling and smaller groups of people.

Yesterday, he spit at someone in his after school program (he goes to after school three days a week). I was really upset with him, then I realized it was the first time he had a problem with another kid in over six month, when he was in school it was weekly, sometimes daily.

we aren't homeschooling YET but we are seriously looking into it, and our son has Asperger's syndrome, generalized anxiety, and sensory processing disorder. I think it's going to present its own unique set of challenges but i think in the end it will be better for him. I just need to wrap my own head around it and get over my own insecurities.

I just gave notice at my son's school this week, and we won't be going back after the Christmas break. He is 6.5 and in first grade. He has Asperger's, but he is an early intervention poster child, and it is really transparent to outsiders. I just get to deal with the meltdowns at home.

I actually really love his school, and he is in a class of only 14. I feel sad about leaving, but excited too. In our case, he just isn't challenged. He isn't learning anything new, and I feel that we could just go so much further (especially in math) than he will get at school. So, we are going for it.
I just wish I could get over this flip-flop feeling over whether I am doing the right thing for everyone in our family!

We our homeschooling our gifted DD who also has some social anxiety and sensory issues but more on the level of OEs rather than as diagnoses.

The gifted forum at MDC has been a huge help for me, regardless of schooling approach.

We pulled her out of her pre-K private school last spring when it just became blindingly obvious that we needed homeschool for now.

My mom and sister are seriously considering pulling my niece out of school because she's been having a LOT of problems recently. She's definitely gifted and also decidedly autistic; She had been doing well until this year, but it's been issue after issue since September with both the giftedness and the autism. I think my sister's first choice is a private school for children with autism, but homeschooling is certainly on her radar at this point and that will mean another kiddo in the house for me.
