BABY Signing Time VS. Signing Time DVDs?

What is the difference? We have Baby Signing Time Volume 1, and I was thinking about getting Volume 2. DS is close to 15 months. Can someone explain the difference? Should I start over and get regular Signing Time Volumes 1 and 2?

Baby signing time volume 2 was kind of bleh. What I'd do now is look through the signs offered in the Signing Time volumes and get the volumes in the order where you want to work on the signs. For instance, vol.s 3 and 6 have a lot of foods.

Season 1 was better as far as signing, imo. In season 2, Leah's gotten a hearing aid and Rachel's fallen out of the habit of signing every word. And it has a much more stilted "let's LEARN, Good Job!" feel.

You could also check out the songs on YouTube and decide which ones won't bug you after being played every day.

The main differences ...

Baby Signing Time: Alex and Leah are cartoons
Signing Time: Alex and Leah are real

Baby Signing Time: all the kids signing are babies/toddlers
Signing Time: the signing kids vary in age (still includes some babies and toddlers)

Baby Signing Time: song pauses to teach a sign, next song segment is about that word, song pauses to teach another sign, and so on
Signing Time: a group of signs is demonstrated, then there's a song about those words

Although, from some descriptions I've read, Signing Time Series Two interrupts the songs to teach signs. I'm not totally sure about that since I haven't seen any for myself.

At 18m DD prefers "regular" Signing Time. She seems to like the age range of the kids, and she recognizes the "real" Alex and Leah. She doesn't accept that the cartoon versions are them. She refuses to call them Alex and Leah! And purely for myself, the song interruptions drive me crazy, so I prefer Signing Time too.

I would start buying Signing Time (making sure they're the Series 1 DVDs, not the Series 2), especially for a 15mo. They'll probably hold his interest a lot longer. On the website (signingtime.com) there's a PDF "progress" chart you can download to see all the signs that are on each DVD (I use it so I don't have to go through every single DVD description). I'd start with the one that seems most interesting/useful to you guys and go from there.

although some of the signs in baby signing time are taught in signing time some aren't .... baby signing time starts with basics like diaper, potty, mom, dad, teddy bear, food, more etc etc i got all four of the baby signing times to start with which were perfect as they had signs ds was likely to use and were just more baby friendly. now that he's almost 3 he likes the regular signing time better.

Go straight for the Signing Time, lots more variety of kids, way better variety of signs. No silly cartoons (except for Hopkins the frog). Much better songs.

I personally find Baby Signing Time more enjoyable for ME, but dd loves the regular Signing Time. They will last much longer and teach more advanced signs (but in a way that even young toddlers can understand). So I would go straight to those.

My kids like Signing Time. Even my 9 year old will sing and sign and enjoy the silly pizza song. They like to come up with their own silly pizza songs at the dinner table.

Have you looked to see if they have Signing Time at your library? Or any other sign language videos for that matter. My library has many different videos to choose from and we have used Signing Time, Baby Signing Time, My Baby Can Talk, See and Sign, and Say It With Sign / Sign Language Made Easy (they changed the name when put to DVD but used the same video.) My favorite to watch is the Sign Language Made Easy, but it is designed to teach ASL to adults. My kids still watch it, but they don't get sucked into it like with Signing Time.

I should really check this out and see - thanks for the idea! I think I checked on Netflix once, and they don't have it.
