Anyone use baby vicks? - Page 2

We have used baby Vick's alot. We start out with a warm shower (or bath) then put the Vick's all over Ds's feet and cover them with socks. I think I saw you post earlier about your lo not feeling well. IMO at this point I would give your lo something like Triaminic (they have one for congestion) Ds has had to take a decongestant several times and he was fine with them. I give him 1/2 tsp and this seems to help ALOT. I think sometimes just like us the lo's need some meds to help break the stuff up.

i have tried baby vicks, but didnt like the smell and it irritated my baby's skin. an alternative is to make your own. i didn't read all the responses before posting, so if i'm repeating someone's suggestion, apologies. it's pretty simple to make and lasts a while.

ingredients:
2 fl oz carrier oil, i use sweet almond, but you can use olive oil if it's easier
2 tbsp bees wax, available at health food stores
2 vitamin E oil capsules, found in vitamin/supplement section
5-8 drops eucaplytus essential oil
4 drops peppermint essential oil
4 drops lavender essential oil

heat carrier oil and bees wax in a water bath over low to medium heat. once wax is completely melted, add two vitamin E oil capsules, and the essential oils. Pour into clean container (gladware or ziploc disposable containers work well, or other reusable container) and allow to cool. store at room temp for up to two year.

for use: rub about a tablespoon onto chest the same way you would use vicks. wash hands well because peppermint oil really stings the eyes. this is best at bedtime to avoid your child gettint it into the eyes. you can leave the peppermint oil out, if desired, but it works better with it in.

We've used and it helps. Note that a lot of discussion about Vicks and children is about adults giving children the adult's version not the baby version. (Insert a million conversations with MIL here.)
