His facial skin is still so dry and red. :(

I posted this thread in LWAB when DS got some newborn acne. The actual pimples went away, but then the improvements he was making sort of just plateaued. I never did put any more BM on his face besides just one dose sometime, and I did not do an elimination diet (I'm not able to do elimination b/c of budgetary constraints).

It is only on his face that he is like this (and he does have a raging case of cradle cap now, too). I just went and re-read my thread and most people said that their babies' skin cleared up by 2 months. Well, DS was 2 months yesterday and he's still dry and red. He did have his 2-month appointment yesterday and I just mentioned it as one of my "concerns" and she said that he just has dry and sensitive skin, and suggested Eucerin or Aquaphor.

The thing is though, it's ONLY on his face that he looks like this. When he wakes up, I need to take a picture so you guys can see the comparison between his face and his tummy. It looks like the two body parts should belong to two different babies.

I just want it to clear up already. DD was never like this and I feel like I'm doing something wrong this time to "make" him this way. But at least he's happy.

coconut oil treatment?

I'm not sure if this would help but you might consider applying some organic virgin coconut oil to his face. Many, many skin issues end up as fungal issues and cradle cap is one of them. Coconut oil is supposed to kill and keep yeast at bay (candida). It is good to apply onto red diaper rashy looking areas as well as the scalp. I have always struggled with flaky skin from psiroasis and I use straight coconut oil on my face as lotion. It sounds crazy to put oil on your face, but I now have really clearn skin - no more flakiness or blotching.

It could be a little bit expensive though. We buy it in bulk from Tropical Traditions online. You can also get it at health food stores in the olive oil section. And possibly in the ethnic aisle at a grocery store near the coconut milk.

I actually have some coconut oil, and tried it on a small part of his face for one application, and it seemed to make it worse. Then I noticed that the "best by" date was back in May. So I don't know if it looked worse b/c it will look worse as it gets better, or because I used expired oil on him.

It could be seborrehic dermatitis, my DS has had it(also had cradle cap) I tried EVOO, A&D, calendula lotion-nothing worked. My dr told me to try hydrocortisone and I got some yesterday and it is almost gone today. His whole forehead was covered.

Do you have Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child? I love this book it helps answer so many questions about children's health issues.

Could it be that even if it's only from the chin up?

ETA: never mind, I should have googled, lol.

I went and got some coconut oil. The one I had last time was not virgin and probably not cold-pressed either (it said "expeller pressed" on it). It really smells like coconut, lol. My other one did not.

Anyway I was rubbing it into DS's face, and while I was doing that, he just kept looking at me and grinning so big. lol. It was the cutest thing. He was really enjoying the application.

I'm also going to put it on my face and on DH's chin/neck. DH, for a long time, has had a bumpy redness on his skin around there, from shaving, so I'm wondering if the oil might help that a little.
