Overdue - Page 2

My quickest birth was with my 6th baby and my largest baby @ 10lbs 9oz. My water broke and after 2 maybe 3 contractions I felt like pushing. I freaked out when I felt pushing merely minutes after my BOW broke so I tried not to push but couldn't. L&D lasted just 45mins. DH barely had time to fill the bathtub!

I have had 2 23 days late, both girls were very healthy, one had meconium but no stress. I had one boy 26 days late, and he was a BIG boy compared to any of my other postdates babies. OTOH, my last was only 15 days late, and he was a tiny peanut.

My latest boy was the only one that we managed to do a UC all the way, with no transfer for any reason. We have attempted 4 UCs; one UC transfer after the baby for me, then the UC start to finish with a UP at the end, UP/planned UC turned transfer before baby and hosp birth, and the last was UC/UP with transfer after for me. My biggest and latest baby was the healthiest and I managed fine at home.

I did do some of my own natural remedies with several of my babies. The worst idea was trying to get a baby near her due date to come. Since I always go late, this was a very risky and bad thing to do. I believe there were some consequences to doing that. So, I have always waited until 43 wks to do anything to push things along since.

my friend is 35, and when she was born, she was 45 weeks. her brother is 39, and he was born at 46 weeks. apparently, their mother was born at 46 weeks, and their aunt (mother's sister) was born at 45. they do now know how long her grandmother gestated, but there seemed to be a history of long gestations in that family.

everyone was just born with a lot of hair. normal sizes, storng and healthy, and a lot of hair.

i would feel comfortable going to 44 or a bit more *if* i felt a lot of fetal movement and i felt that everything was going along fine. if i ever fel tthat something was wrong, i would get help.

I was a 44w 1d baby

Its true, doctors didn't freak out like they do now. My mom had split up with my dad and had no doubt at all when she conceived. The doc never doubted her either. At 42w they tried to induce and it didn't work. They sent her home and said I obviously wasn't ready.

When she finally went into labor (on Oct 30-I was due Sept 29th), it was VERY fast, less than an hour before I was born. I had meconium, which again, they didn't worry about. The doc expected it since he knew I was overdue. I was a healthy 8lbs 10oz, 21" long, and apparently didn't really sound like a newborn. She said I sounded way different then all the other newborns in the nursery.

She also said I had horrible peeling and all the other signs of an overdue babe. On top of that, the doctor said my placenta had started to separate (again, obviously overdue) and that thats why she finally went into labor. It was also calcified a bit. So...obviously her particular OB didn't see being overdue as a bad thing, nor the placental separation. To him, it was just the normal path of things.

I'm sure today she would've ended up with a cesarean, probably well before when I was actually born. This makes me sad...I like my birthday! Cake and presents and then costumes and candy the next day!!!! WOOOO!!!!!

I posted earlier about my two later babes. After reading the above post I realised that I'd left out some info.

My 44+2 babe had no peeling and no vernix, but the placenta was stained dark green and the fluid was also green. His nails were curled around his toes and fingers and he had a full head of curly blond hair. He was 10lbs 3 oz and screamed while his body was still inside mine. Then within the first hour, he laid on the couch with dh and me and babbled in long cooing vowel sounds with inflection and communicative facial expression.

Our friend who is a midwife came over to see us that day and she couldn't believe her eyes when she saw him. She said he looks and acts and responds like a four month old! He did.

Then she looked at the placenta and was amazed too; she'd never seen one with so much staining because she has lives in a very regulated area where she is always indentured to the orders and policies of an OB even though she practices independently of them. Nobody delivers past 42 weeks there and going that far is very rare.

Most OBs in my former province order interventions at or just before 41 weeks at the latest. The one I almost had wanted the interventions to start on the day I would have been 40 weeks! I was only in my 1st trimester when I went to see him and didn't go back with that sort of stipulation! This was after his concession to a trial of labour as long as I didn't get to 40 weeks or the babe wasn't going to be more than 8lbs (the babe previous was 8lbs 12oz born early by c/s).

All of our babes have been born with full head mobility without any floppiness. I'm still afraid to hold someone else's newborn because I'm not sure how to hold them!

I am much healthier this time around and I'm curious to see if this babe will grow faster with better nutrition than I've had before and a healthier mum (I had adrenal and thyroid problems before). I'm 11 weeks and have finished with nausea and have so much energy that at times I feel a bit nervous that I am not pg anymore, but I am. I was dancing to the Postal Service with my boys today. Usually I'd have been on the couch all day excpet for meals and bathroom and this would go on for most of my pg previously. Not so this time. I've only been siting today twice, for two minutes. Maybe I should sit down a little more. I'm even standing now...

My mother's 3rd full term pregnancy went 44wks. My sister was due Aug 11th and came on Sept 4th. I was always grateful for that because Aug 10th is my b-day and since I have a twin I already have to share my b-day! She went to the doc the day she delivered, told him she thought this was it and he sent her home. Told her if she hadn't delivered by the next week they would induce. 4hrs later she had a baby in her arms. My dad didn't even make it, the only birth out of 7 he wasn't there for. Her mil had to drive her. Dr. Bradley, from Bradley childbirth, swore he had a 52wker. She had trouble conceiving and had fertility help (I don't remember what they did) so they knew time of conception and followed her very closely so she didn't have a missed miscarriage. He says by the end she had family members that wanted to kill him, but the baby was only 6 1/2 lbs with no signs of being postdates. Can you imagine what sz she would have been if she had been induced or had a c-section at 9 mths? Not that I advocate going that long, but it's interesting to hear someone did and all was fine.
