DH won't let DS go to the dentist

DS1 is almost 4 and has never been to a dentist, but DH is concerned that the cleaning will actually wear away the enamel. Is there any truth to this? I don't want them to do the flouride treatment but I do want them to do a thorough cleaning and check for decay (some nights, we're too tired to brush teeth). There's a bunch of pediatric dentists around me we say they do mercury-free fillings if it comes to that.

The question, I suppose, is as compared with what? Dental plaque does a dandy job of eating into enamel.

You only need to have them cleaned once a year or at least that is the max I would consider. I can see going a lot causing problems.

As a dentist with prior experience doing holistic dentistry, I would STRONGLY encourage you to bring your son in.

plaque and tarter can do a bunch of damage to enamel as well. a one yearly cleaning is a good idea.

What age do you recommend a toddler start seeing a ped dentist? Our ped says three.
