ok, i thought i knew how to yarn over (i've done it before), but i'm having trouble with this pattern.

what it's telling me to do and the number of stitches i cast on just don't seem to match up. it also doesn't look right. what am i doing wrong?

Is it row five that's an issue? Because there is some chatter about that in the comments section here. It's a pretty pattern but I've not worked it so I'm not sure. Where are you getting caught up? Maybe you can try leaving a comment at that blog and the pattern writer can help. Good luck!

yes, row 5 is the issue. i read the comments (thanks for the suggestion), but that didn't really help. i feel like a moron, because i know this is supposed to be easy and i just can't figure it out.

I'm sorry. It's so frustrating when you stuck like that. I would recommend emailing/commenting on the blog or checking the ravelry page----often there are forum posts with similar issues and a different way of explaining the issue.

OH! I know! did you maybe knit into the yarn overs on row 1? you should only ever knit 26 stitches. you're not "adding" stitches.

you are merely wrapping extra yarn around the needle to "hold" it til the next row - that's what gives the long strands in between rows of knitting ... then on the next row, you only knit in the knits from the previous row, not in the parts where you did yarn overs.

I was just going along, while watching the baby, and I unconsciously knitted into a 2 yarn overs and ended up with 2 extra stitches ..... sigh

thanks mamas! i finally figured it out. don't even want to say what i was doing. always seems the simplest things confuse me and i don't have any problems with the more difficult stuff.

about halfway through the scarf and i'm really liking the way it's turning out.

i made this scarf (different instructions but same stitch pattern) and love it! it was my first "lace" project. i'm glad you figured it out & hope you have fun - happy knitting!
