What else should I try next? (need cloth diapering help)

I've been using the Happy Heiny's one size pocket diaper for a few weeks on my 4 month old. Here is what I like about this particular diaper:

- snaps (no velcro)
- one size (I want to be able to use them until he is done with diapers)
- fleece surface which I heard is the driest solution of all cloth diapers

Overall I like this diaper, but I'd really like something a little more dry (absorbent should I say), and less bulky (some pants can't even get over these diapers).

My question is, which diapers should I try next that has the things I like, and can stay more dry and less bulky than the Happy Heiny's pocket diaper?

I was recommended the "Blueberry" either bamboo or delux line, but their one-size measurement is already pretty close to what my son measures currently so I'm afraid they will be too small to last till he is out of diapers. Any suggestions based on my feedback please?

Also, another idea is that I buy some more absorbent inserts such as hemp. In that case, any recommendations on the insert itself? I think a more absorbent (yet thinner) insert might just solve the problem. But I do need more diaper itself and I don't want to go buy more, say, Happy Heiny's pocket diapers just for the diapers when I'm not really going to use their inserts. That seems like a waste to me. Any ideas around this one? Is there a way to just buy some pocket diapers like the Happy Heiny's without the insert so I can go find my own inserts which might be better absorption and thinner?

FuzziBunzSeconds.com sells theirs without inserts, at a really good price. I bought my Happy Heiny's at their retail store here in San Diego, but prefer FuzziBunz overall. I have several hemp inserts, and love them for trimness and absorbency, but man alive does hemp stink! I have a Happy Hempy's hemp pocket diaper that I use with any insert and a Thirsties cover, and in the morning there are no leaks but Peepers stinks to high heaven!

You could always check Craigslist and see if you could buy single diapers and/or inserts from people selling off their used stashes. It's a good way to try a few different kinds without putting out a big investment.

Ditto the Fuzzibunz. Snaps, one-size, and fleece inner. Not terribly bulky, though not as trim as (eg) gdiapers or softbums.

Absorbency really has more to do with the insert than the diaper. I've heard good things about the Loopy Do hemp insert (haven't tried it though).

For inserts, econappy inserts are very trim, and quite absorbant. Ds can fo all night in a blueberries insert (similar to econappis- the econappy is hemp and cotton and is trimmer. The bb insert is microfiber and hemp, and possibly more absorbant).
I also like loopy dos.

I'm not an expert on pockets, but I know Swaddlebees are very trim and you could buy Joey-Bunz or something similar to go in them.

I used bumgenius one size pockets on my son from 5 months til now (2 yrs). They were a ot bulkier on smaller settings. On the large setting he has no bulk. I would try some sized pockets for outings if bulk is the issue. I personally love OBB Marathon pockets, but they are pricy. They are so super trim though. Ive had 2 in each size and use them only for outings when I dont want bulky pant.

I'll bet you might be really happy with the Thirsties Duo Diaper, which is a two size diaper, not one size. YOu could probably jsut go straight to size 2 (the size 2 cover fit my son at around 15 or 16 lbs, rather than 18 like they say). It comes with a nice combo mf/hemp insert and the price is pretty reasonable.

Both my boys are in the size 2 now. My LO got big so fast that for future kids, I'll probably just use prefolds with covers like I did for this one, up until they fit in the size 2.

Oh- and I think hte size 2 is supposed to go to 40 lbs, which is bigger than a lot of the one sizers.

Mommy's Touch Easy Clean One-Size Pocket Diapers are my fav pocket diapers and I've used all kinds of different brands and types.

Mine came from Abby's Lane

Just something to keep in mind - most clothing now is cut to accommodate a sposy diapered bottom, and they're making sposies trimmer and trimmer. So even if you get the trimmest possible cloth diaper, you may not be able to fit him into the "right" size of pants. Of course, you could resolve that by just putting him in longies or babylegs...

For trimmness though - I have probably a dozen different brands and styles of dipe, and nothing really beats prefolds for a trim bottom. Even if I'm stuffing a doubler in it, it's the trimmest thing I have in my stash.
