Cabinet locks

Are there any cabinet locks that don't break w/in a day of installation, like the "Safety First" ones we just bought? We'd gotten the kind that you screw into the inside of your door & attach another part to the cabinet body - to open the cabinet, you open the door a bit & then have to push down on the lock.

I don't know if you have odd handles on your cabinets. But I used to have the long skinny handles in my old house (not regular knobs) and they didn't work with the kids safety locks so I ended up buying those kids plastic links and putting them together like a chain and fastening our cabinets shut that way. It totally worked. You can buy them in any toy store.

Here is something like what I had, except they had small openings to fasten them all together.

We have the magnetic ones and I have been really happy with them. DD has just learned to open them and she's 5. They were a bit of a pain to fit but they have held up for 3+ years. We've even unbolted them and brought them to the new house.

I would recommend buying a spare key though, we have locked ours in the cupboard more than once.

I've heard of ppl using the links before, but we have knobs, so that wouldn't do it for us. I'll have to look for the magnetic ones. Thanks!

I second the magnetic recommendation.

And I also recomend getting a second "key" (not because we've locked one in the cabinet, but b/c the first one always "disappears" - most often it's found in the pantry having attached itself to a can when the groceries were being put away. For reference the second most likely location is in the pots/pans cabinet).
