I've read everything on nchomebirth.com several times, but I'm still confused how to go about doing this. How do we get the forms without a midwife, and does anyone know if my husband can go in and file for the certificate without me, or do I have to be there? Do we have to bring the baby? I know I'm cutting this really close since my due date is in 16 days, but I've read things over a few times and I'm still confused. It's like 20 degrees outside at times and I really don't want to be bringing the baby out of the house, as well I don't want to be apart from the baby at all that early in his/her life.
How does this all work as far as us turning down all the newborn screening tests? Are they going to ask for that when he applies for the certificate, or will it go unnoticed that it wasn't done? At the hospital they required us to stay an extra 2 days because I turned down certain things (vit. k, pku, eye drops, etc) the government isn't going to want to send someone to come monitor my baby or anything since it was born at home and didn't get these tests, right? We don't plan on taking the baby to a pediatrician at all unless there is something wrong.
Also, nc requires us to file for the certificate within 10 days. Anyone know what kind of repercussions there are if it takes longer?
I feel so silly/ignorant. Here I spent all this time preparing for and researching a UC birth, how to handle certain emergencies, etc, and now the baby will be here soon and I really have no idea about what I need to do after the birth (aside from taking care of myself and new baby of course!)
