financial resources for homeschooling families

I would LOVE to homeschool our 4 1/2 year old (she's now in daycare two days a week, and with my mom a third day) but right now I'm working 30 hours a week. I would love to cut back my hours at work so that I could homeschool her, but I would need to supplement my income. I'm sure there must be good resources out there for ways to bring in extra money, but I just can't find anything right now. Could anyone point me to any ideas? TIA!

Thanks for the reply PFF. I couldn't bring my current job (which I love) home, so I think what I would try to do is cut back my hours at work, then do some stuff from home on the side. Unfortunately, I don't have the temperament to sell anything, which disqualifies me from most work at home stuff! But I could probably find some editing work without too much trouble. Anyway, it's just helpful to know that other parents are out there balancing homeschool and work.

Not really. But I am stingy on the WAH job information so it's okay if people think that. I have no idea what PurpleFireFlies does but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it if she's willing to share and you are looking for options.

I hope I didn't sound dismissive! I just have a lot of anxiety, and a job that requires me to be organized and a self-starter would add a lot of stress to my life that probably isn't healthy. I'm a librarian right now--I show up at work and know exactly what I'm supposed to do, and then I go home. The simplicity of it is perfect for me!

Hi there- just a reminder that when helping out with information not to promote or have people join your business. Thank you for your understanding.

Why do you feel you need to cut your hours to HS your DD? I work full time and HS my DS and pretty much have right from the start. We HS in the afternoon, weekends, early am, etc....
For daycare I have him at a very flexible in home provider whom we love dearly. The beauty of HS is that you can do it on your terms and your time. The concept of 9am-3pm mon-fri just goes out the window and a whole world of possibilites opens up.

I guess I just feel maxed out right now, and would love to be able to take advantage of cool things that go on in our local homeschool community, which I miss right now because of my work schedule. I've been inspired by reading around a bit on some HSing websites though, and I think I could feel sane balancing HS and my job if I only cut back 1 day (I currently work 5 days a week, T-S.) If I take the plunge to HS, I want to feel like I can really give my DD some good energy, and I don't have much of that these days!

Well, when she is older she can come do her work at the library while you are at work, as well as reading for pleasure while you work. It sounds really ideal.

Meanwhile you could see if a family that is homeschooling K would want to take her for the 2 days that she is in daycare now for the same rate.
