Disappointed in my doll

I am in the middle of making my drd waldorf doll.
It is a large sized button doll. I asked for Amy to weight the dolls head, and I weighted the dolls body and limbs.
I attached the head last night, according to her directions, and the head flops back a it. Not terribly, but when I am sitting it up it looks like the doll is looking up in the sky. I have a email into Amy, but was wondering if anyone else had any ideas.

Also, I am disappointed that the body is not rounder. There is no belly at all. I don't think that is fixable, but I am bummed about it.

We are our own harshest critic. I'm sure the doll will be beautiful when you are done!

Is that a dancing rain doll one? I have one and I am not thrilled with it either. I think the head is way to heavy for the body and mine flops back to. Mine looks like a mess and not waldorf at all. Oh well.

Every time I make a doll I think it's horrible. And every time I make a doll,no matter who it's for,my daughter runs off with it and starts loving on it.

I think it's really easy to be critical of yourself with a waldorf doll because there are a lot of people who are professional doll makers making those dolls. It's real easy to find perfect examples of those dolls to compare yours to.It makes it harder to see the lovlieness of your own doll. But my daughter doesn't love her beautiful absolutely perfect waldorf dolls any more than any other doll that she has.I do but that's a different story.

I agree with Rere- children are more accepting of perceived flaws than adults are, thank goodness! Your child may find your doll needs her more than the others because of this weakness.

Having said that, weighting the head is problematic. The neck is the weak point on any cloth doll and a little strip of fabric reinforcement is not going to hold up, over time. The wool batting that wraps the head and creates the neck and shoulders has to do this, so it's important to use a substantial thickness, even a double layer, and tie the neck tightly with the string. A thin neck may look better to some but won't hold up, even without weight in the head.

I hope you will keep making dolls. Please, don't let this one discourage you. Try a different pattern.
