So I've never EC'd at night. Tried a couple of times, and every time it resulted in a screaming baby, a sleepless mom, and a very wet bed. No matter how many towels I put on the bed, she would always roll off them before peeing all over me.
Anyways...around a year old she started being dry a lot of nights, but if I ever tried to go diaper-free overnight, she would always pee on me. So I just gave up and figured she'd just naturally start staying dry all night if she ever stopped nursing at night. (Yeah, right. She might stop nursing at night...before she goes to college...!)
Anyway, DD is 21 months, and lately she's started telling me BEFORE she needs to pee--a very new development! Very exciting. So last night I had her big thick overnight pocket diaper underneath her one-piece footed pajamas (can you tell I had COMPLETELY given up on night EC?).
And at 2 am, she suddenly said, "Ssssssssss..." Yeah, I thought, ok, you're peeing. I'm too tired to care. (I had come to bed at midnight and she had been nursing NONSTOP since then, so I had yet to fall asleep AT ALL.) I waited, hoping she would just go back to sleep. Nope. A minute later she did it again. "Sssssssss..." It was then that I realized that the first "Ssss" had been her telling me...before she went...that she needed to go. And the second "Ssss," of course, was her going. Then she kind of wailed, "All WET!", so of course I had to take her diaper off. Which meant taking her pajamas half off. Once had the wet diaper off, she said, "Zip up." Referring to the pajamas. Really? I thought. "You don't want another diaper?" "No..." she said, and I was too tired to care. "Ok," I said, "just tell me if you need to pee again, ok?" And she didn't pee the rest of the night. We woke up at 8, and I asked if she needed to go potty. She didn't say yes, but she didn't say no either, and after I minute she rolled over and said, "Daddy!" "You want Daddy to take you potty." Yep. She went happily and pooped as well as peed.
Yay! I'm in shock. Nightime EC! I'm going to have to cut bumflaps in all her one-piece pajamas.
