Did a chiropracter make a BIG difference in your birth? Especially if you've already had really...

Just kinda curious here...

So my last birth, a UC, was PERFECT. It was fairly quick (5 hours total from start to finish), I labored silently on my birth ball the whole time, moved when my body told me to move, got off the ball after about 5 hours when I felt I needed to, my water broke, and she shot out in less than 3 minutes. Great birth for me, very bearable, I have no doubts about my pelvis. LOL (DD1 was a medicated hospital birth so I don't really compare that one)

This pregnancy I've had really bad SPD and I recently started seeing a chiro (for the first time in my life). I keep hearing about how beneficial chiro's are for labor because of what they can do with the pelvis, but what if you already have a good birthing pelvis? Does it really make that much of a difference? I guess my question is, if you had a GREAT birth experience with no chiropractor treatments during your pregnancy, and then you had a pregnancy where you saw a chiro, did it really make a difference in your birth?

Also, as far as positioning, I'm very aware of what I do to get the baby optimally positioned in the weeks/months leading up to labor and never had a problem with either of the girls, so I don't necessarily fear a poorly positioned babe but I have read that supposedly chiro's can help with that, too, right? I don't know if my chiro does the webster technique or not, though.

Sounds like the main thing you need your chiro for, is keeping you pain-free--or at least, pain-less, for this pregnancy. It does sound like you don't especially need 'help' with those other issues.

yeah, that's really the only reason I'm getting chiro care. I guess my reason for posting was because I just wonder if it can STILL benefit my birth, even though I don't really need help in that area....like if it can make something already that good even better and I'll be pleasantly surprised? Just really curious, I guess! Mostly since I've never seen a chiro before, much less during pregnancy.

It made a big difference for me, but I did NOT have a good labor the first time (49 hours, over half of the time I was fully dilated, pushing several hours with no descent, c-section) the 2nd time, with chiro care the whole pregnancy, labor was 15 hours from first ctx to baby out, perfect anterior baby the whole time (first was an OP baby) I also had pretty bad back pain throughout the 2nd trimester that resolved with regular chiro care.

I saw a chiropractor every week during my pregnancy, with Webster technique at every appointment beginning at 30 weeks. My baby was born OP and asynclitic after 40 hours of labor.

Oh I'm curious about this too - I too have had terrible SPD this pregnancy - probably because of the over-influx of relaxin in the last two years.

My last birth was very traumatic and ended with my daughter dying, so I can't say anything about that - but, I do believe so far in this pregnancy, regular chiro care has kept me functional and mobile. He can't do too much about the state of my hips, but because of my hips, my back has gone completely out of whack, so every second week or so I get an adjustment.

I just had one yesterday and practically EVERYTHING cracked. Now, the next one will be the day before an induction (being induced due to my last daughter's birth, the fact that I was a VBAC and the hospital only does them during the day (silly I know) and the distance from the hospital AND the fact that we're in MN in the middle of Winter...*takes a deep breath*).

I am currently sitting at just over 36 weeks, so we've only got a couple to go before (if my Bishop's score is good) we're going to give induction a go. So, I will come back here and update you if you like - we'll know pretty soon if chiro care helped!

*HUGE hugs* XxX

I've seen a chiro through all of my pregnancies, but only during my second labor did I actually go in during labor and it seriously helped a ton. It cut the pain of the contractions in half immediately, and that was the only birth where my baby was positioned just right to come out.
