"natural" hair dye - Page 2

Totally don't do henna if you are at all bleached! I turned GREEN AND ORANGE! With BLONDE henna! I haven't done it in years learned my lesson in high school. When I was my natural dirty blonde colour I could use it, but the same henna colour on top of blonde dyed hair was a mess! On natural hair, of most any colour if you pick right, it is gorgeous and makes your hair full and shiny after the powder finally washes away. I guess maybe if you find the right brand of henna the green will not take so well?

I am still looking for a solution to my roots and I am thinking I will suck it up and go get a few high-and-low lights in a salon which should carry me through to the delivery... I usually do my own (mostly highlights) but have gotten lazy and before I conceived (luckily JUST before) I did a whole head colour so my stripe is maddening! I might just try to put a few in myself but I have been meaning to for quite a while, but I know that if I do it myself I will not leave the bleach in as long as I'll sit with it at the hair dresser.

I buy my henna from Castle Art and Imports. http://www.castleart.com

but all of the vendors on the Henna Page are good or else they wouldn't be there! The folks who run that website are very interested in preserving the integrity of natural henna.

Wouldn't that be the problem. Henna, natural henna with no toxic additives, is not blond. It is only red hues. To be "blond henna" there has to be additives.

Thanks for the link!

It sounds like there are ladies here who know a lot more about henna than I do but I wanted to mention that I have a friend who goes to a salon where *all they use* is henna and other natural products. She does indeed dye her hair red but it's a gorgeous natural-looking shade and she says at the salon they can do any color at all and all the use is products like henna, coffee grinds, lemon juice, etc.

Like I said, I don't know much about henna at all and the only evidence of good results I have seen are red and with this one friend but perhaps more is possible?

I also wanted to mention that I firmly believe that coloring hair is an art and a science that sometimes simply requires a professional. We blame the product when it could be that a professional would recognize the appropriateness of one product versus another and know things about application that are crucial and important that we don't know! So if in doubt, seek out a professional! (Sorry, personal soapbox: my mom is a hairdresser!)

I think it was actually a strawberry blonde... but still not "blonde" enough not to turn my hair orange and green
