Three cups of tea...one child at a time: The Young Readers Edition

I am pondering a gift for my dd and I - picking up a copy of Three cups of tea for myself and three cups of tea the young readers edition for my dd.

Has anyone read or have their dc read the young readers edition? What age would it be suitable for. My dd is 9.5 y/o and is a very strong reader, well above her age level however not necessarily mature in terms of global thinking.

Just curious what your experiences are with the young readers version of the book.

I teach 6th grade gifted students. I read that book and was not impressed. It is more like an advertisment for how FABULOUS the author is than anything of substance. It was so bad for me that I didn't bother to read the regular version. I wouldn't recommend it.

If you're looking for some global thinking, how about a copy of Material World or Hungry Planet? Much better.

Thank you for so eloquently summing up how I actually fell about that book. I was disappointed in it becuase it seemed like it would be really compelling. But it wasn't

I agree that this book is not interesting. I had checked it out of the library and my mom picked it up when she was visiting and said it was pretty boring. I think my DD (11 & in 6th grade) read a page or two. I made it through a few chapters.

Has anyone read the regular version? Is that any good?

My 8th graders middle school (6-8) all read the reguler version. I actually haven't been able to find one because the author was here and it's really been popular.
