Felted bags too fuzzy!

I made a couple of felted bags for gifts, and they're downright hairy. The first one I'm ready to just scrap because the colors didn't come out great, but I remade it in a black lopi, and it's too fuzzy, too. Am I choosing the wrong fiber if I want a smoother finished product, or can I do something to fix it.

I did try to shave the first bag, with limited results.

I felted bags made of peace fleece a few years ago, and I liked them. I thought lopi, and this Joanne Licorice stuff would felt more easily.

Some people like the electric razors, I'd buy a cheapie in case it breaks instead of using dh's. When I shave them it does take a while. There's also one of these http://www.knitpicks.com/accessories...r__D80600.html
