Anyone else have a baby that pees while nursing?

I have heard that babies can't (or at least don't) pee at the same time they are nursing. But mine can and does! I've watched him peeing while at the exact moment gulping down the milk many times.

Is my baby the only one that does this???

I find it hard because it means that I always have to nurse and hold him over a bowl if I want to catch the pee, and I find that getting to be very challenging and awkward as he gets bigger. It would be easier if he pulling off or some other cue meant pee and then I could stop, pee him, and get back to nursing.

They might have trouble staying latched when they have to pee and thus, might have trouble with nursing while peeing, but the other way around is certainly not a problem.

What I'd try is cuing him over a sink/toilet before you sit down to nurse. Play around with it until you find a good way to hold him over one or the other. I've found standing at the sink to be more consistently easy to use over time, but when Lina was under 6 months old I also found that I could sit backwards on the toilet while nursing her and that worked fairly well.

Is he young? Lina didn't start the pop on and off thing until around 2-3 months. Not sure exactly when, but it was definitely a time when ECing was easier in general so must have been near 3 months.

How old is he? Can he sit on the toilet by himself yet? DD does this at night. Well, she doesn't need to nurse but if I don't nurse her she screams while she's on the toilet. Basically, I just squat down in front of her while she is on the toilet and nurse her at the same time...

My LO was certainly able to pee while nursing. I can recall a few times when she was nakey on a prefold and somehow stayed dry while I got wet. She didn't do it often, not often enough to try to potty her while nursing, but she did pee while nursing from time to time! If holding him over a potty is awkward, you could try just having a prefold or two under and over him, and cue when he pees, then change it out. Just an idea. At some point he'll sort everything out and not pee and nurse at the same time.

My son went through a long stage where immediately upon waking he needed to pee and nurse-- and *immediately*! He would not wait for one or the other. I had a hard time with aiming him into a little potty while nursing. So, I just took him to the side of the tub and let him pee in there while nursing. This was a great solution for us, and I guess we stopped doing it somewhere around 24 months, when he was able to wait to do one or the other. I used to think it was so funny because he got so used to this that eventually the nipple became like the "on" switch for the pee-- so I had to wiggle around and prevent him from latching until he was aimed away from me!

This worked well for us, although it was a bit of a let down for me when he was a newborn and I had it all worked out that DH was going to be responsible for all the peeing. DS didn't like that plan at all!

I think that if I have another boy some day, I'm going to try using some sort of a bottle, like an empty juice bottle, for him to pee into at night to save me the walking but I didn't think of it early enough with this one and when I tried to introduce the whole peeing into a bottle thing he just looked at me like I was crazy!
