frugal HE laundry detergent questions - Page 2

HE is a must in a front loader. You will ruin your clothes and your machine if you use regular, even less of it. It just suds too much.

I use Tide He... I know not very eco friendly but it works and it's worth it to me to pay the extra money. They make a "free" option. I use Downy Free HE for the softener. It doesn't smell like anything.

I've never ruined the washer nor my clothes. Sometimes I've had to run it through a second wash because there were still suds on the clothes, though.

We've had our HE machine for about 8 years now, and until recently I never used an HE detergent.

But, if you want a fragrance free HE detergent, I'm using Country Save now, and I'm very happy with it. I only switched because my dipes were getting stinky.

I've had a HE front loader for 3 or 4 years and I've never used HE soap. I've mostly used cheap free and clear soaps (all, purex, and Arm and Hammer) I have also used homemade soap too. The soap doesn't sud too much nor seem to leave any residue. I do have soft water and I use very, very tiny amounts of soap (less than a TBS).

I have had some diaper stink issues, but I guess I have attributed that to the polyester in my ancent motherease diapers not my washer. In my situation a little diaper stink liveable situation (4-5 overnight diapers per week)

I was told to run one load per week with bleach which I also haven't done. I do leave the door open much of the time.

Have you had success with Biokleen? Hard water or soft? Alternated with another detergent or with continuous use? Is this recommendation based on your experience?

I ordered some Biokleen today through Amazon's subscribe and save, and it works out to less than $.07 per load, which I thought was a great deal. But obviously only if it works well for HE machines.
