We are UP so far

Hi, I'm Jessica. This is my second pregnancy. So far, we are UP-ing; I've decided at least into the second trimester. I'd like to postpone care into the middle of the pregnancy, like about 20 wks or so.

We are feeling out our way through this, and will probably have midwife care for the prenatals, but my partner and I are tossing around the idea of UC. We're about 50/50 on homebirth with midwife/UC. We haven't committed either way, but we're going to let it develop naturally however the birth comes down.

I feel pretty confident about my body's ability to birth. I won't get into my first birth story, but it was great! I intuitively labored at home with family, then left for the hospital pushing--was there less than thirty minutes. The worst part of the whole thing was the short time I spent in the hospital So I want to avoid the hossy at all costs (barring an emergency for the babe's sake, of course). I didn't really know I had other options with my first pregnancy, so this time, I'm weighing everything much more carefully before deciding.

I just wanted to introduce myself and officially de-lurk. I'm here looking for support/inspiration for our possibly unattended homebirth toward the end of July.

Hey Jessica! I am due also the end of july and I think I am UCing and UPing as long as it feels right. I want ala carte prenatal care meaning I am in control and I chose what I think is important. This is my second child, first was a fantastic midwife assisted home birth. I feel pretty good so far and would love support also.

Well, thanks for the welcome, gentlecowgirl! Looks like there are a few of us due in July who are drawn to UC. I want that ala carte prenatal care, too! It seems pretty all or nothing with the midwives in my area, so that's part of why I'm postponing prenatal care for now. I think we're okay for now.

Hi ladies.
I'm due at the end of July. We had an UP and an UC last time, and we just always played it by ear. I'm lucky to have midwife friends, so if I need something a la carte, I can ask. I'm going to ask for someone to bring their doppler over to let the kids hear the heartbeat in a couple weeks! Exciting. I'm not committing to UC yet as I want to get further along in the pregnancy and feel things out. We knew for sure about halfway through last time.
Yeah! Happy healthy and I'll see you in the DDC board too!

That's how I feel, too, mataji. I don't want to fully commit yet because I reserve the right to change my mind depending on how everything feels/what my intuition says to do. I don't like being stuck in labels, either. So for now we are planning on just letting it unfold naturally with no pressure to UC, go to the hospital, whatever.
