Trainers! (tips?)

Whenever I put my daughter in gerber cotton training underwear, she seems to "leak" every 15-20 minutes. She'll start to pee, catch herself, then stop. But the problem is when this happens, I'll sit her on the potty and she doesn't do anything and wants off after a few minutes (so I let her off and put another clean underwear on). A few minutes later, she's wet again.

She just went through 6 pairs of underwear in about an hour.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Make the potty more entertaining? Offer it 5 minutes after the dribble instead of immediately? Tickle her? Stand her in the bathtub and let her play with the water from the faucet?

She truly seems to wait until she gets off the potty to pee... I like the "wait 5 minutes before offering" suggestion though. I think I'll do that!

But will that not conflict with linking the "miss" with teaching that "pee goes in the potty"?

We have nothing but misses these days...

Sorry, those comments together just struck me as funny.

What you could do is just tell her that pee goes in the potty and that it seems like she might need to pee some more so in a few minutes you'll give her a chance to try.

I don't (knock on wood) have the problem you're having now, but when Lina does a full pee on the floor I don't take her to the potty after that. I just clean it up and tell her to please let me know when she needs to go.

HAHAHA! If I ask her where the peepee goes, she will ALWAYS sign "potty", go find the potty, point to the inside, and say "That". Every time. She KNOWS that pee goes in the potty. What she doesn't know is that she has control of putting it there. She's even brought the potty to me after a miss (though she hasn't done that in a while).

And after almost 11 months of EC'ing (or trying to EC), you can see why that is frustrating for me. LOL!!

We had a similar situation with poop, but not with pee. So during our 7 or so month long poop strike, she typically pooped in her pants twice a day. She'd start one, then not finish it (even after I stopped saying OH NO and rushing her to the potty!! ) and then finish it later.

I think I'd just not do the gerber trainers for now, but that's how I generally approach things!

Hannah had a long stretch of choosing not to go in the potty, as you know. I'm convinced that if we had a different kind of potty scenario, as in a standing up place somewhere, or just a potty area where she could go, that she would have gone where she was "supposed to". She just didn't want to go on her potty (potties) for whatever reason.

Like I've said before, your little love will surprise you someday!

This is not normal for her (being so unaware and "leaky"), and it occurred to me that her molars are coming through (or trying to), so I'm wondering if that's contributing. She's woke up crying a few times over the past few nights, but I've always managed to get her back down quickly. Not tonight though... Poor baby.

I think you're right hrsmom... I'm going to forget about the gerbers for now. Thanks for the advice.

If it isn't normal, I'd definitely blame the molars or think about if she's eaten anything unusual lately. Fruit? More juice than usual?

oops - don't forget that UTIs can just look like less-good bladder control or scanty pees (=leaking) with no pain... drop off a sample with your dr? not to introduce a worry, just a precaution.

She's not taking in any extra fluids, and I'm not worried about a UTI (thanks for bringing it up though!). This ONLY happens when she's in the gerbers. When wearing diapers, she empties her bladder completely at longer stretches (on average once per hour, or sometimes longer).

It's the teeth!!!!! How do I know this? It's always those darn teeth!
