getting 15 m.o. to poop in the potty

i can't for the life of me remember how i got dd1 to poop on the potty. i start introducing pottying when dc is around 11 months. i did it with dd1 and she was out of diapers by 18 months, and potty trained by 22 months ( meaning she rarely had an accident, maybe 2-3 a month).
with dd2 i can get her to sit on a potty, i can get her to pee on her potty, she will tell me when she is wearing a diaper when she pees and poops ( she will pat her crotch and say mama or "that") but i would like to get her to start pooping on the potty. if she gets that i will buy some cloth trainers and start the real potty training.
how did you do it? i can not remember at all how i got dd1 to do it.
TIA!

for us it is a timing thing, EC style. she will often poop on the potty first thing in th am. if not, i watch her closely for signs (like standing still and grunting) and then quickly take her to the potty.

you could also get some books from the library. we had fun with Zoo Poo.

Every time we heard DD pass gas we ran her to the toilet. Unless she is sick, we always catch her poops now. Also, we always put her on the toilet first thing in the morning, when she is most likely to poop.

The fart method works well for us too.

My guess is when you only had dd1 it was easier for you to be sure she had to poop. Try tracking the time of dd2's poops for a few days and then start offering around those times.

Diaper Free Before Age Three suggests scheduling first thing in the morning and after meals. We find that lots of lots stories help prolong the time on the potty.

i used diaper free before 3 with dd1, and i of course lent it out and haven't seen it in 2 years.
yes, i will start watching in the AM. usually unless we are on a mad dash out the door she will poop soon after getting up.
thanks!

Yup, this is us too. First thing in the morning or soon after, every other day. The times when something has thrown off his clockwork (sick, busy morning, etc) are much harder because he doesn't signal us yet. So sometimes we have to do a lot of sitting on the potty and waiting. It's a great place to read books and play clapping games!

I also vote for Diaper Free Before Three.
