I need some ideas...

Baby bit is sick and having trouble nursing. He has an ear infection (early) and stomatitis, which is blisters in his throat. His doc put him on Amoxicillin. We finally seem to be getting past the pain of the throat, but the Amoxicillin has torn him up. His belly is hurting bad. And, so he wants to nurse but can't. He will try to latch and as soon as milk comes out, and he swallows, you can hear his belly rolling and he starts writhing in pain and screaming.
I'm trying to pump to make sure that it doesn't hurt my supply, and I am trying everything I know to do to get some fluids in the kidlet. Any ideas on how to get him to nurse?

hugs for you and emory. just take it slow and watch for signs of dehydration. i'd call the dr and see if he can give something else? i d k but would probiotics help with the tummy???

I didn't give the antibiotic this morning and he is already doing better belly wise. He nursed pretty vigorously when I went to see him for lunch. I am going to call and get something different and see if that works. I won't have him pain like that again.

thanks! i did. just stopping the antibiotics made such a difference. he was like a new baby last night. he even slept 6 hrs again, which he hasn't done in 3 or 4 days! he nursed like a champ this morning.
i'm just going to wait 3 days and see how the ears do. if they still look rough, i'll get a new antibiotic. if they are better, then it was a viral illness (what i think it is) and we're golden.
