16mo ds and newly pregnant and milk almost totally gone! advice?

Hi ladies - I just found out that I was pregnant this week after taking a pregnancy test in total frustration. My milk supply started really dropping about a week ago and finally I figured something had to be happening out of the ordinary took a test and it looks like I'm just pregnant, like maybe 2-3 weeks. So I'm very happy about that but a little freaked out by how fast the milk is going away.

I didn't think the milk usually went away this fast! I am still nursing a couple times a day and have letdowns but they don't feel strong and my ds only nurses for a couple minutes at a time. My breasts don't get engorged. I pump once a day if I am working and get maybe 3-4oz.

I was planning to wean him if I got pregnant but I was thinking 4-6 mos in and this just seems so abrupt. I should note, however, that I think he's ok with it since he has never been a big comfort nurser. So if we do have to wean it's probably ok for him but maybe I care more about it??? Also, can pregnancy hormones affect the milk's taste & nutrition? Right after nursing at 5AM today he spit up and I wondered if it could be because the milk tastes weird or has hormones of some kind in it.

Oh anyways, i would love to hear your thoughts - is this normal re: milk supply drop? What was your experience? I will probably try to nurse 1-2 times a day going forward but I feel like this might not last. Did it last for you? Thanks in advance!!!

How fast and if a mother looses her milk is dependent on the person. Some women see a supply drop right away. Some don't. Some seem to loose their milk but get some of their supply back. I had milk through most of my pregnancy. But really, it sounds like you still have a decent supply. If you can pump 3-4 oz he probably gets at least that much when he nurses. I don't know anyone who still gets engorged after 16 months of nursing. Pregnancy can affect the taste of milk, sure. It is unlikely that it is making him spit up. Many women, myself included nurse through pregnancy. Hormones getting through milk are not an issue. Check out kellymom for good info on nursing during pregnancy/tandem nursing.
