Eating brains??

I've run across several recipes lately for cooking animal brains (perhaps I am being told something!) and am wondering if anyone eats them and if so where do you get them? Aren't you afraid of contracting Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease?

I've never eaten brains. DH has, and used to like them. But when we bought our cow last year, we were told we couldn't take the brains. I figure a grass-fed cow's brains are the healthiest out there, so who knows. I have no idea where/how you could even purchase some.

I haven't heard of eating cow brains, but I have heard of using pork or lamb brains.

The local grocery here carried calves' brains as little as a decade ago. (To quote Jacques Pepin, "Pork brains tend to be mushy and beef brains are spongy and elastic.") At this point, I wouldn't touch the stuff with a window pole, including fellow travelers such as scrapple, regardless of source.

Brains are delicious, supposedly -- my mom grew up eating them and raves about them. Like sweetbreads, a real gourmet treat.

That said, I wouldn't eat them now, either. I'm sure the risk is minute, but still -- what a nasty, nasty disease to take chances with. Of course, I'll still eat marrow (that's a risk too, isn't it?), so I can't say this makes any sense!

brain

i have not eaten brain for years,
but we have here a brain salad made of boiled sheep brain as a whole, (it looks like walnuts) parsley and olive oil. But it is not sold everywhere, people mostly eat it when consuming alcohol. I wish they had it at salad bars.

Cezos!!

I have eaten cow brain a great deal as I grew up in Mexico where tacos de cesos is common street food.
