He really doesn't like his sister.

DS is 5 and DD is 3. He has always resented her arrival in the family, and even after 3 years still occasionally says he wishes we would throw her in the garbage, etc. Lately there has been a lot of negative talk: "you're dumb," "you're a baby," "You don't know how to draw dogs right," etc. The negativity is driving me crazy; none of us talks like this! He must be picking it up at kindergarten, although he denies it.

Yesterday I sent him away from our family activity (making cookie dough) for 5 minutes, and tonight I sent him to his room and told him to think of something nice to say about his sister when he emerged (also 5 min). We don't usually do time out, but I want to get across that it isn't okay to talk down to people like this.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!

Try and get him to play the big responsible brother and when he tries reward him.

Like telling him that he will get something that he always wanted if he helped his sister draw.
