Nursing in the bathtub

I've started taking baths with my son, since he doesn't fit into the sink anymore and it's just easier than leaning over the tub. And I love it! We sing and cuddle, and such. But whenever he realizes that, "hey! There's nipple RIGHT THERE!" he will try to latch on and nurse.

I have no problem with him nursing in the tub, I'm just worried about our position. I lean back and he lays on top of me, except he doesn't really push himself up with his arms. I use my arms under his armpits and kind of support him for nursing. I don't think this is really comfortable for him, plus it makes his wee butt get cold.

Does anyone else nurse in the tub? What positions do you use? He's a heavy baby, so it's hard to do cradle hold without a pillow or something to help.

Honestly, I use cradle in the tub with no problem with my 15-pound chunker. Babies float really well, just let the water do half the work for you!

this is what i do too, when he notices that the boob is there while sitting snuggled in my lap. most of the time, though, he doesn't really notice until i'm laying back to wet my hair and he's laying on my tummy. then, it's like he suddenly notices "yippee! nee nees are right there!" and he will latch himself on. he's so cute when he's struggling to pull with his arms to get at it. lol.

I let him lay across my tummy. I always keep a washcloth in the tub. When he's bfing & I'm worried he'll get cold I just wet the cloth & drap it over his little tush.

We just did this today, I love snuggling in a warm tub with my babe, and so does she! I've never tried nursing her laying on my back, I'll have to try that. What we do (she's 17 pounds, 4 months tomorrow) I bend one of my legs so that she can lay her head on the bend side of my knee, with her body still all in the water, and I lean down a little to let her nurse (droopy boobs from nursing DD#1 for 18 months helps with this, lol). The only problem with this position is when her 4-year old sister who was also in the tub moved around too much water splashed into her ear which I was worried about.

Oh, also, I usually bring a recieveing blanket or small towel into the tub with us to get wet with warm water and put over any parts of her that aren't in the water.

That is the ONLY way my DD#1 would take a bath for the first few months of her life, until she could sit up on her own. I wrapped her up in a towel and sat up in the tub with her and used my free arm to wash her.
