when should my period return?

I always thought 6 months. DD is 9 months. I am wondering though if the 6 month idea came from the fact that most people taper off breastfeeding. We have not. Could that be why?

It varies wildly. After my dd it was 10 months, after ds, 19. There really is no predicting it.

It does vary a lot. My DD is 5 mo old and I just had my first PP period.
She is solely bfed on demand, we cosleep and I wear her constantly so even though I am doing everything "right" to prevent my period, my body has other plans. I would do a little research on it ahead of time if were you and be prepared for a possible temporary supply dip. I had no idea this could happen and was totally unprepared for it. My supply took a major dump which was very upsetting to both DD and I. I wish that I had had some pumped milk that I could have supplemented her with so she didn't have to suffer. With the help of cal/mag, fenugreek and lots of nursing I was able to get it to come back up some but it wasn't until I completed my period that my supply went back to normal. That doesn't happen to anyone but it is something I wish I knew about in advance.

Mine came back almost a year to the day that DD was born, LOL. Figured I was safe to go camping .... guess not, LMAO

I think mine came back around 9 or 10 months.

Mine came back after 4 months. I guess DD is just too good of a sleeper.

Mine returned after 15 months

I got my 6 weeks pp, and it's been completely regular ever since.

That'[s what you have to do to get it back, plan a romantic weekend and only bring lacy panties and white pants!

My DS is 15.5 months and mine still isn't back.

It's rare for it to take longer than 2 years. I think the average for women who nurse on demand, use no bottles, and don't sleep-train their kids is somewhere around 15 months, but I could be off by a month or two on that.

Got my first pp period at 15 months and have only had 2 (or maybe 3) since and dd is 21 months.

Yeah, I don't think there is any way of knowing, ESPECIALLY considering anovulatory cycles, because those can come with no rhyme or reason. I've read that the earlier you start AF (say, before 12 months PP) the more likely it is that your first cycle (or more) will be anovulatory, while the later you start, the more likely it is that it'll be ovulatory.

I got my first one (anovulatory) at 4.5 months PP after DD1...nursing around the clock, no pacis, co-sleeping, etc. But I didn't start actually cycling until 10 months PP. After DD2, I was nursing BOTH girls around the clock (still co-sleeping, etc) and started at 7 months PP and while I can't say for certain if it was anovulatory or not, I definitely ovulated the next cycle.

Mine came back at four months, but I pump at work so that could have something to do with it. I'm hoping it was a fluke period and I don't see one again for a very loooooong time

My midwife told that my period would return 6 months postpartum +/- 6 months.

My lo is 5 1/2 months old. I got mine back when he was about 4 months, so I have had 2 cycles. I exclusively breastfeed but I think I got it back so soon because up until 4 months he was a great night sleeper, and usually slept from 8 pm until 2 or even 3 am without feeding. Also, I went back to work at 7 weeks pp part-time and so since then I have been pumping for one feeding a day, which my friend theorizes isn't nearly as effective as "postponing" your period as actual breastfeeding is.

I got mine at 4m pp after DD1 was born, 6m after DD2 was born (nursing both of them) and then 7m after DS was born.

My aunt, who nursed her kids for around a year, maybe a bit less, never got her periods back until after weaning.

There's a fairly wide range of normal.

Average is 14.6 months.

I've it return once at 2.5y and another time at 18m. I thought it was returning when DS was 6 months, but then it went away ago, so who knows. Everyone and every child is different.

16 months - exactly 28 days after DS stopped nursing at night.
