That's crazy! What the heck is a ten-week-old going to do with carrots!?? And to think I sorta cringed today when I heard a mom I just met talk about how she "had to" start her 5-month-old on rice cereal next week... but carrots for a 10-wk-old takes the cake (so to speak).

woah, how can they get it down??

my first thought was did he choke on it? that particular one was supposedly advised to do so by the dr because he has reflux and needs food to coat his tummy.

rice cereal is just empty carbs...

Wouldn't a baby that young choke on it? They don't even recommend solids until 6 months, right?

That's crazy! I couldn't believe when the Dr told me that DS may need to start solids at 4 months for reflux. I don't know if I could do it!

my mother thinks i'm crazy for waiting until 6 months to give solids. "your baby needs more than *just* milk to grow"
when i was a baby, we were weaned by one month, given cereal by 6 weeks, and fully onto pureed table foods before the age my kids ever had a mouthful of mashed up banana.
this was good for us apparently. i speak nonsense when i talk of breastfeeding being good

i must be mega hormonal because i nearly screamed at a total stranger today for being preggo and smoking. i guess some people really just don't care what is going into their babies?

You should have told her that smoking while pregnant increases her baby's risk of childhood cancer.

DDC crashing... Hey, about the smoking thing: mores seriously than that, it can lead to a thin cord, with not much Wharton's jelly on it. Which can then get too tightly wrapped around baby. Which can lead to fetal death...

...which happened to a friend of mine, three months ago.

Not worth the risk

this is so sad jay! i smoked previously, but quit during pg and bf. i quit for good in 2002 because i just could not smoke and keep myself and my kids healthy. glad i did...my ex sil just died from cancer!

on the babies eating solids front, i was told to mind my own beeswax.

I don't get where these people get these ideas about solids. Pediatricians?
the main reason i've heard is to help your baby sleep through the night/longer stretches. and that can be mighty tempting to many people ... even though my neither of my first two children didn't miraculously sleep through the night once eating solids

Well,I now have a dd who sleeps six or seven hours frequently with just bm. A friend's dds bothe did the same, also with no solids, so I think it's just a per baby thing (ds wasnot like that).

people did sometimes ask me why i waited until ds1 was 8mths before introducing solids.

10wks seems so insane
