Freaking out. I'm a teacher and had an aweful craving for a hot dog yesterday. I kicking myself in the butt for giving in to one yesterday from the school cafeteria. I thought it was safe since the cafeteria has so many stringent rules. Well, I ended up getting an upset stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea all night. Feeling better but am worried about Listeria. Called my midwife and she told me that if I'm feeling bettter that I shouldn't worry, and that listeria typically shows up some days later with a fever. I feel like I'm reading all types of different things on the internet though. Any one have any advice/stories?

Keep yourself as hydrated as you can and try to relax and rest up. I hope you feel better very soon!

We had a similar experience the other day. I spoke with my Dr. and she said that if I have a fever, and/or diarrhea and nausea that lasts days to see them.
Listeria symptoms show up in 2-70 days because it has to infect you, then produce the toxins. There are other food bacterias that have already made their toxins while silently waiting in the hot dog, which you then ate. These toxins immediately made you ill, which is a good sign.
24 hours later, how are you feeling?

I'm feeling much better . . . I guess, a good sign? but if the symptoms can show up 2-70 days afterwards, then can I get some sort of blood test to see if I have it already, before the symptoms would appear?

A quick call to your midwife or OB would be in order?

If the hot dog was cooked (grilled, boiled, etc) you should be find. Heat kills listeria. I heat my cold cuts just until they steam to be safe. More info here:
