Video about Homeschooling for bright 3yo?

DD is asking to "go to school" thanks to all the PBS shows, etc that emphasize it.

She will start pre-K this fall at home. Is there any videos that maybe have home schooled kids or talk about it for this age group? She is just not connecting it because she's never seen it before {we have no local friends who home school}

We don't know exactly what we will be doing, but I approach it like Reebekah does. I have talked about the different kids of school - school, church school, homeschool, even computer school. DD gets the idea that there are different ways, and that she may homeschool.

That's how we handled it with each of my girls so far. They know some kids go off to a building to school all day and others don't, and that there are different types of school for different things (gymnastics school, church school, ballet school, and soon violin school) My oldest spent half of last school year in ps and was more than thrilled to come home again for school after that, and seeing my oldest doing 1st grade at home helped my 2nd dd with the concept of K at home and their 3yo sister doing pre-k at home. They see it as normal now since they see the sisters all doing school at home, and I'm blessed to have several friends who hs their children that we get together with regularly. This past fall for soccer, it also helped that my oldest dd's soccer coaches hs their 2 dc who were on her team (it was a mom/dad team coaching) For us, making hsing seem like the most normal thing on earth meant getting around other hser's and showing them that its not just a weird mormon thing (only 2 of our hs family friends are LDS and in our church, the rest are in other churches with one being athiest) We knew we wanted to hs from the start, back when Melissa wasn't even born yet, so as soon as she was born we started keeping hs catalogs around and talking about when she would be starting school at home, trying to make it as naturally normal to our family as possible.

We also try to watch shows on tv that have families that homeschool. A big hit in our home with the kids is the Duggar family's show, they would LOVE to be in a family that size (no thanks not my taste) and since they see the kids are hsing and they see them doing schoolwork on occassion during the show, it helped to drive home that not all kids are in public school.

Someone should contact Sesame Street and tell them that they need to have a hs'ed family in their show. lol

We tried Reebekah's route and it totally didn't work for us. Although he has a LOT of activities to be involved with and sees lots of kids, it's really never enough in his eyes and school was another "place where kids could play".

Of course, he's now almost 6yo and this was it's worst over the last year when a lot of his young friends went off to K (and were preparing to go off to K and EVERYone asked him if he was excited to go to school ).

He now has therapy at the school and I try to point out whenever I can how the kids have to stand in line and are working at their desks. One time I got lucky and they rang a "clean up" bell--so I showed him how the kids there had to clean up right in the middle of playing. His 7yo cousins also really don't like school because they work all day and I asked them about this (my SIL was less than thrilled even though I simply asked them to tell ds about their day in school and didn't say a WORD beyond that--just let ds hear their responses).

But that year was ROUGH. And he still occasionally wants to go to school.
