magnetic letters?

We moved into our classroom this week. It's very exciting to have all our stuff in one room and a whiteboard on the wall. But I'm not sure what to do with our magnetic letters.

We can use them on the whiteboard and also on our easel, but it takes SO long to dig through the box to find the letters we want. We have two sets of upper case and one set of lower case, so we could make quite a few words if the letters were more accessible.

Does anyone actually use the magnets? Is there an easy way to organize them (that doesn't take a lot of room).

BTW, DD is 4 1/2, reading CVC words and about 40 sight words. We don't need the letters to learn the alphabet.

I'm very willing to donate them to the thrift store or church preschool if I don't figure out a simple solution.

Doesn't everyone just put them on the refrigerator? That's what we do.

Yep, they are more for "play" than "school" although a lot of learning does take place.

We use AAS, so we have a dedicated 2x3 whiteboard propped up on the floor that shows the letters all the time. There's space to spell with them in the middle. We use this system all the time, but it sounds like that may not be what you had in mind.

We use them on the refrigerator also for our spelling test. The kids love that instead of writting them down.

AAS is All About Spelling.

I've got a few blog posts and videos describing it. You can also see our whiteboard with the magnetic letters.

Where do you hang all the artwork if the fridge is covered with letters?

Our fridge is completely covered with sunday school projects, library projects, and whatever else fits.

Oh yeah, we did a wall with magnetic paint, it works well with magnetic letters. If I were just starting out, I'd keep definitely have this as a priority for the homeschooling room.

glad to hear a good review of it

we've planned that for the basement before homeschooling was on DH's agenda.

Hey, OP, if you decide you're going to get rid of the letters, don't send them to the thrift store - I'll pay you a little amount for them and gladly take them off your hands! Seriously!!! My 3yo LOVES those things and we need more. LMK! Thx!!!
