Recs for DH friendly diapers, please!

My DH wants to switch to disposables after putting a Nikky cover on over a prefold backwards for the 3rd time in 3 weeks (he pretty much refuses to learn how to put the covers on correctly). I do the bulk of diaper changes and use mostly prefolds/covers and we have a few fitteds.

I want to find something super easy for DH so he doesn't give up on cloth.

A quick look on diaperpin for AIOs has me considering SposoEasy. I love that they have cotton against baby's skin, no stink issues and seem trim. I would buy the aplix since that seems closest to a disposable.

I would love any other diaper recommendations or comments on SposoEasy. I'm thinking I could get by with just a few to start - I wash dipes every 2 days and DH probably changes one diaper every couple of days.

Thanks!

Bum Genius AIO's (I prefer snap, but there are aplix ones, too).

I think you should sit DH down and give him a tutorial. You shouldnt have to sacrifice your LO's comfort, and your wallet (cuz your constantly buying sposies), just cuz he wont learn how to put on a cd! Do you trifold in the Nikkys? I pretty much exclusively used Nikkys on my DS until about 4 months. In the beginning DH would always reach for a sposie until I got a snappi, then he was happy to (and not so scared of CDs). I think he might just be being a little stubborn.

When DH and I are lazy we reach for our pocket diapers. I have Bum Genius, Swaddlebees, and Kawaii baby. Kawaiis are very inexpensive and pretty good quality, they are one size but fit best at around 14LBs. Well worth it if you just need something laying around for DH to use.
they can be found:

Hope this helps!

To confirm, these are suedecloth, right? I have some BG pockets - I could stuff these and have them available to see how my son reacts to the fabric. I am considering selling my non-cotton stash b/c my first son was very sensitive and I think this baby will be, too.

But, thanks for the rec. Will definitely keep it in mind!

You are so right! I think DH was just frustrated tonight b/c I wasn't available to help with the diaper change and DS was crying...and he had to do two back to back diaper changes. I could get him at a calm time and just show him. Also, the Nikkys are confusing him b/c the tags are in different places for NB and S sizes...so, when he grabs a cover from the pile, he doesn't stop to think about what size he has (or bother to look at the tag). He trifolds in the Nikkys - I snappi (he wants nothing to do with the snappi - I think he's afraid to do it wrong). But, again, a brief tutorial could help with that, too.

Personally, I'm loving prefolds/wool with DS2. I found prefolds so overwhelming with DS1, but I feel like an old pro with DS2.

I have some BG and FB Mediums for later....but, I'm considering selling those to get more natural fiber diapers.

Maybe you can mark your covers somehow to make it more immediately obvious which way it goes. Even just always laying them in the same direction in the pile.

Dh was a little unsure at first with the prefolds as well. He was MUCH happier once I showed him he could just trifold. The pins he was terribly slow with & snappis he couldn't quite figure out.

oh, I only have the organic AIO's - so they are cotton. But BG does make synthetic AIO's similar to their pockets - just no stuffing required.

If you like your current system, I'd have a stack of "DH diapers"- all the same size covers, and all the same type of prefold to trifold in it.

My dp is totally willing to use anything, but I still have a stack of "his" diapers, so they're all familiar to him. He doesn't care enough about cd's to remember different snap settings, etc.

If you wouldn't mind switching it up a little bit, and if you think he'd like a velcro one-step system, MY first vote would be a velcro pocket diaper. But perhaps one with a natural inner. (fleece is really annoying me lately, with repelling issues, etc). Then you could get them all ready to go, and it's just one step to put on.

Before even reading your OP, I was going to recommend aplix SposoEasys - trim, simple, easy to wash. He can't possibly mess them up.

A tutorial along with diapering more often for practice might help. My DH has no problem with prefolds, a snappi, and a Thirsties cover... but he does the bulk of the diaper changes. Personally, I would like to try to do it without a snappi because DS squirms so much, and it takes forever get him changed. DH is afraid of the poo-splosion that might create.

my dh uses bumgenius aplix pockets which i prestuff and put in 'his' drawer.

DH was confused too by the tag in front on Nikkys. I am a wool lover too, but I dont think my DH has put wool on our DS in a while. I agree with everyone else, maybe get some BG organics. I know they have discontinued the organics in aplix but you might be able to still find some or look on diaperswappers. I have hear bottombumpers are another natural fiber option.

Coupla' suggestions:

Sew a small, cute patch on the outside front of each cover,

or use cotton fitteds (haven't used them, but snugglebottoms with velcro are 6/$24 at babybunz.com and get mostly excellent reviews on the diaper pin), with a pull-on cover, such as a dappi nylon or bummis whisper pants, which are very inexpensive. Bummis have a tag on the outside back, and you could label that somehow with a sharpie. It's easier to tell if either of these is inside out.

Thanks! I didn't realize they made organic - I just ordered some to try out.

Great! I have one on the way to see how we like it. Here's to hoping he really can't possibly mess it up

Thanks!

My DH uses Fuzzibuns stuffed with prefolds. Or Thirsties AIOs with a doubler.

As much as I hear mamas that love the BG. I hated them. They were huge on a NB took an eternity to dry and I never felt like they were clean enough. But many many love them, so your DH may too.
This is the reason why I ended up with fuzzibunz. I tried all the different CD, "systems," but with every one of them, DH would complain. He loves FBs and even brags to other ppl about how we only get blow outs if we use disposables, but not with FBs. We used the old sized (S, M, L) pointy tab FBs.

I really like my sposoeasy's but I think that the bum genius organic (with aplix or snaps) are great too and are also a natural fiber against your lo's skin

Honestly, I'm with the pp on giving him a tutorial. Sounds more like an excuse than anything. Oh no, daddy has to do 2 diaper changes in a row!

My DH can't figure out the snappi or prefolds, but when we ran out of fitteds the other day, and that's all that was left, he did his best to get it on him. It stayed on, it was all inside the cover, it did it's job, it was all good. And when I took it off of him, I showed him an easier way to fold it "correctly" for next time.

My DH thought at first that he'd prefer the Aplix - I have 3 Aplix night-time dipes. After using them a few times he realized that he actually prefers the snaps. With the Aplix it's too easy to just stick it wherever and have it leak because the legs aren't tight enough.

My DH was a little hard to convince at first too... Especially since he used disposables for his first five children. So when I left him in charge of cloth baby, I would lay a diaper or two out for him, ready to go, so he could get used to how they fit, how they work, etc... He would only use Snappis, but called them bungees (until one gouged him).

Within a year he was so convinced of cloth's superiority, he is now PINNING diapers that he assembles HIMSELF! I'm so proud. BTW, we use RRP with a prefold trifolded inside and pins.

So don't give up. Just help him out with a couple ready-to-go diapers and let him figure out his own system. Sometimes I come home to a funkily assembled inside-out diaper, but it's dry and baby is happy...
