Am I stupid for not wearing a bra?

Thread Starter
I'm a SAHM and only wear a bra if I have to go out in public. I just hate wearing bras and would rather be comfortable at home.

My current bra size is about a 36E and my 6 mo old is exclusively breastfed.

Am I going to regret how my breasts look when my son is weaned or is the "sag" and stretch marks inevitable regardless of wearing a bra?

I'm a G cup right now - I figure there is no chance these girls will ever be perky again (actually I think again is an exaggeration - there may have been a day in grade 5 that they were perky!).

I hate bras & often pull it off shortly after coming into the house.

I'm an I (if you can believe that, LOL) and I NEVER wear a bra at home. I hate them because they are SO not comfortable. I only ever wear one when I go out in public like you do. To be honest, I don't care what they look like anymore, LOL. It's just not that important to me.

I always wear a bra (even if just a sleep bra) and my C-D boobs are flapjacks... so...

As long as your comfortable.

I never wear a bra when i'm home either, I'd just rather be comfortable! Half the time if I'm just running to the store quick I throw on a baggy sweatshirt or a sleep bra at best. I only put on the real thing if I want to look nice, lol, so uncomfortable!!

I was a d cup before I started having babies and they weren't exactly perky then. I quit wearing my bra several years ago because I had reoccurring mastitis.

I can't not! You ladies are brave! I have generous Cs and I HATE the flop sweat and they pull when they are full. I am just more comfy in a nursing tank!

I rarely wear a bra, but I do wear nursing tanks all day. I have never bought the idea that bras somehow prevent sagging/stretching/whatever. I think it is all genetics and whatever is going to happen will happen, much like stretch marks.

Same here! My breasts are too heavy without a bra!

Wearing one or not wont make a difference on the sagging. Do what makes you comfy.

So is it a bit myth that not wearing a bra will make your breasts sag????? I have owned like 1 underwire bra in my entire life, I pretty much exclusively wear sports bras/tanks... my pre preg/nursing breasts were at like a VERY small A, so I could easily go without when I wanted to. Now they are a generous C and I wear a sports bra during the day. My Mom ALWAYS told me that they will sag if you don't wear an underwire bra! Wait until I tell her the big news, that it doesn't matter either way!

I think it is a myth yes. My mom has worn a bra her whole life and even though she is a B at most she sags. I started sagging well before I started going bra free and I was only an A. As we age we sag not only our breasts but the rest of our body as well it is just a fact of life.

I agree wearing a bra is more about comfort & style than preventing sagging. I can believe it may minimize sagging a very little bit but really, if it's not comfortable, why torture yourself?

My grandmother never wore a bra because where we lived, those were luxury items in her day. She always had perky breasts. She was a B from what I could judge. I hope I have those genes.

I rarely wear an actual bra, I wear a nursing tank with the bra built in. I'm a 36E (up from a 36C pre-baby) and am more uncomfortable without a bra on. My boobs might be bigger than an E, because they feel so squished in the bra... not to mention this is easier for me while nursing. I'd say whatever makes you comfortable!

theres a bra-free thread in FYT if you're interested

I think breast perkiness is more to do with genetics than wearing a bra. I have sagged since 10 when my breasts began developing. Do what is comfortable to you!

In which case I'm doomed! Though at least I know my mother doesn't choose to wear bras that improve the look, so I'll be fine with those as an option. However based on genetics I don't know where my actual boobs came from, it was embarassing at 14 or 15 that my mum gave me one of those triangle bikinis that fit quite a range of sizes and it fit her, but I was bursting out of it.

I never wear a bra. My boobs were saggy before I had kids anyway. Oh well.

I usued to always wear Victoria's Secret underwire bra ALL THE TIME. Then I got pregnant and started to wear sleep bras. And then I had DD and started to wear nursing tanks with shelf bra. Now I CANNOT stand bras at all! I tried a VS bra (I do fit them again, yeah!) but had to take it off after like 20 minutes because it was so unconfortable. Jeez. Nursing tank, here I come. I really don't care about the sag, btw.
